Must Pump

When a pump is called a "Must Pump", it means it has a large enough pump cavity to accomodate crushed grapes and has the power to move them through the pump head. If you are looking for just one pump to accomodate all winemaking tasks you will need a impeller driven must pump with speed control, such as our EURO60 must pump from Enoitalia. The speed control allows the pump to be used for all applications including must transfer and wine transfer.

There are three types of speed control: mechanical, hydraulic and Frequency Drive. The frequency drive is the best and the type of variable speed our Euro60 uses. A frequency drive is a an electronic power converter that takes in AC electricity from your wall, converts it to DC and regulates it, and then outputs 220V 3 phase power to the pump motor. By outputting a constant voltage and amperage to the pump motor, the drive can regulate the motor's speed by varying the frequency of the electrical signal. Unlike a reostat, which varies the voltage supplied to the motor, this solution does not require high amperages to acheive the same net amount of work. The practical result of that transformation of power is that you can control the motor speed without injuring the motor itself or exceeding the capacity of a normal electrical circuit, and allows flow rates on most must pumps from just above 0 Gallons Per Minute (GPM) to full speed. The Euro60 is a great pump for moving wine or crushed grapes/juice. If you are going to be moving destemmed only grapes where not a lot of juice is present you should consider our Gamma series.

Our Gamma series of must pumps are designed to be rolled under larger Destemmer/Crushers.  They are particularly suited to moving must immediately after it has been destemmed or destemmed and crushed. Unlike the Euro60 must pump, these larger eliptical rotor pumps do not require some degree of juice to be in the transfer. They are ideal solution for destemmed only grapes or small berry grapes where not much juice is present at crush.
