Description

Star San is an acid based sanitizer that is quick, odorless, tasteless and safe for most materials except softer metals. Use of 1 oz per 5 gallons of water and a contact time of 1 minute makes Star San very economical and convenient.

As a high foamer, Star San's foaming action insures coverage and contact time in larger vessels and better penetration into nooks and crannys. Any foam that is left over in your carboy or keg will not harm your beer or you, and is perfectly safe and non-toxic, nor will it impart any flavors or odors. If you plan on making some up for spray application it is best to use distilled or RO water to maximize the life of the unused portion (minerals in tap water reduce the shelf life of Star San once in solution). Can the star San be used in the Speidel plastic fermenter?

BEST ANSWER: Absolutely. Starsan works very well in the speidels for sanitizing and removing any odors from previous batches.

I didn't like the fact that this leaves a film. I am sticking with Saniclean.
I bought Star San  because I could not get Saniclean at my local shop. (Sorry, More Beer  I was in a pinch and would have ordered it on this site)

I found with Star San - not only does it create more foam, but it stays around - and also seems to leave a residue, which IDK if it effected the taste yet - but that bothers me that it leaves a film. Even if you lower the ratio of Star San, it still leaves a residue.

I have been using Saniclean for years, and although you use more per 5 Gal - it is well worth it. Foaming was not an issue and goes away quick.

Excellent
This is a small part of the brew process, but it is invaluable. Easy to use and measure, and has never spoiled fermentation or taste. I've also never noticed that it is harsh on hands from use.

Great product
As others have said here, great no rinse sanitizer. I am sure 5 star offers a low foaming alternative, but this works quite well.

Very good sanitation product
Great product for sanitation! There is no need to rinse and it can be put into a spray bottle, after dilution, for quick sanitation. Only 1 o.z. concentrate needed for 5 gallons and only a couple minutes of contact to sanitize an object.

Easy and Effective
No rinsing! If you dilute Star San with distilled water, it will remain clear and effective for a long time. I keep a spray bottle full of solution for spot sanitizing little jobs like switching from an airlock to a blow-off tube mid-fermentation. A little goes a long way.

Works great!!!
I used Iodophor for the first 5 or 6 years of my brewing history and it works great too, but once I got my Star San I have yet to look back.

The thing I like about Star San is it doesn't stain your plastic equipment and hoses, or your hands like Iodophor.

I have learned to mix it in after filling the bucket (or whatever) with water to avoid excessive foaming.
