Must Pumps
When a pump is called a "Must Pump", it means it has a large enough pump cavity to accomodate crushed grapes and has the power to move them through the pump head. If you need a pump solely for moving must then a single speed must pump is the perfect, affordable fit. If you are looking for just one pump to accomodate all winemaking tasks you will need a must pump with speed control, such as our MoreWine Brand Chunky Pumps. The speed control allows the pump to be used for all applications from must transfer to tank transfer to filtering.
There are three types of speed control: mechanical, hydraulic and Frequency Drive. The frequency drive is the best and the type of variable speed must pump we carry. A frequency drive is a an electronic power converter that takes in 110 or 220V single phase power, converts it to DC and regulates it, and then outputs 220V 3 phase power to the pump motor. The practical result of that transformation of power is that you can control the motor speed without injuring the motor itself. This ultimately allows flow rates on most must pumps from just above 0 Gallons Per Minute (GPM) to 100 GPM.
