Wine Pump vs. Must Pump
In the winery, a Must Pump is used to transfer the juice and skins of the grape, whether it be to the fermenter from the crusher/destemmer, or during the ferment to pump the fermenting wine over and break up the cap. Must Pumps can handle passing solids through the pump head, and have more powerful, heavy duty motors designed to push the thick must. A Wine Pump is used to transfer fermented wine post pressing and for racking, filtration and bottling. Wine pumps are not made to move solids, and in many cases would be damaged if you were to pass anything too large through them.
The pumps we offer below are considered "Wine-Only" pumps, and are not able to move wine with solids in it. If you are looking for a pump to move solids, please see our selection of
Must Pumps.
Different pumps have different characteristics and capabilities when it comes to moving liquid, and these characteristics can make a particular pump design more or less desirable for a particular application.
