Description

Our 1 gallon glass jar works great for holding small amounts of beer, wine or mead for aging, small batch fermentation, overflow storage and fermentation experiments.  Although it's really just a jar, some refer to it as a 1 gallon carboy when it is used for fermentation rather than serving.

Some Suggested Uses

  • Use to store excess wine when you press off and have more than you expected.
  • Ferment small batches of mead, sake, fruit wine or anything else that strikes your fancy!
  • Perform yeast experiments - split a batch of wine or beer into five 1 gal batches and ferment them with different yeast strains

Uses a #6 stopper.

Please Note: DOES NOT INCLUDE LID

Sold individually or in cases of 4.

The screw caps that this says to get have horrible reviews, what size airlock can I use with this?
Steven S on Nov 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello Steven - Use a #6 stopper with this jar.
What size screw cap should be used with this 1 gallon jug?
David Shields on Oct 26, 2023
BEST ANSWER: 38 mm cap in either metal or plastic.
Will this work with a stir plate?
Todd Casey on Apr 30, 2019
BEST ANSWER: If this a standard 1 gallon glass jug, like you would get at the grocery store full of apple juice , then it has a slightly domed bottom... You can get the stir plate to work, but it is fiddly to get the bar centered just right. If the bar is a little off center, the domed bottom causes it to be thrown when you increase the speed. If you don't mind spending 3-4 minutes trying to get it centered, then it should work.

Sized for #6.5 not #6
Seems to be to be good quality glass, however I found that a #6 stopper was a little to small to stay in place during fermentation.

Great
I bought the jars for decorations at my daughters wedding. Wedding isn't until November but I have played around with them. I think they will be great. Customer service and shipping were great.

Quality, Sturdy
These carboys are quality and sturdy. Easy to clean and puts up with the fair amount of abuse I subject all my equipment to. That being said I don't to anything like drop tests or anything, but the occasional bang against the floor or stone countertops seem to not phase the glass. Very good quality.

Easy Way to Brew
I used to use 5 gallon carboys. This method was time consuming, heavy and kind of took the fun out of the hobby. I recently switched to these gallon jugs and can't believe that I used those old carboys for so long. These are easy to use, much lighter and, I believe, more fun that carboys. Using these allows you to make a bunch of different brews rather than focusing on a single 5 gallon batch.
