Description

This awesome little fermenter is ideal for any fermentation, up to 2.5 gallons.  The unit is designed to be an all in one fermenter and bottling bucket.  The bowl shape at the base of the fermentor allows sediment to settle prior to bottling.  The wide opening on top allows for easy cleaning, large direct additions of fruit, hops or other products and overall easier access. Cool beer stein styling makes this the freshest fermentor on the market!

Great for splitting 5 gallon batches into two separate fermentation to test yeast, different dry hops, add oak to one, etc.

Use this fermenter for your next batch of fruit wine, half batch of beer or any other fermentation!  Holds roughly 2.9 gallons total; recommended for 2.5 gallon fermentations.

Just got this fermenter today, noticed there is no sealing o-ring on the lid even though there is a groove cut in the lid for one, should one be in the lid?
Robert Hicks on Mar 30, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Mine works very well and you only need to close the lid "hand tight". The unit seals and the air lock bubbles nicely during high krausen. This is the best half batch fermenter I have seen.
How to get the lid to seal tight? I'm not able to get it airtight. Special tool?
Richard Miller on Nov 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It does not seal. I wouldn't have purchased it if I had known that. Some folks are OK with a primary fermenter that doesn't seal, though.
Is this pba free?
Charles D. Coskery on Mar 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The fermenter is BPA free.
What size tubing would fit on the spigot? I plan to bottle into mini kegs.
Thomas Shirk on Apr 15, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I've used 3/8 and/or 1/2 inch on to the outside of the spigot. I think the most important thing is to do a test run and make sure you get a setup that does not give you any air bubbles- I usually have to fiddle with both the tubing and the spigot connection to the fermenter itself.
What kind of plastic material is this made of? HDPE, PET, polypropylene, etc.?
Rich Z on Apr 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I bought a few of these and they work great. They are stamped on the bottom as #5 PP (Polypropylene) with an edible fork & knife food grade stamp as well, they are also stamped made in Italy, not China so hopefully some slightly better quality in plastic and construction there. I use these for 2.5-3 gallon batches of IPA/other assorted ales, not Hefes or lagers and never had any issues with blow off as long as I add some Ferm-Cap for 3 gal. batches. The spigots don’t leak at all as long as you tighten them correctly, I fill part way with water and then adjust tightness. Like all plastic they do hold a little odor from the previous brew but they are quick and easy to clean. Another good thing is the lid seals well and the plastic bucket is very rigid, solid and sturdy with a good thickness, not flimsy at all so they are easy to move around full of liquid and no fear of breakage when cleaning or using. They come with a cheap plastic S airlock that I replaced with a sturdier 3 piece airlock for $2-3 and it feels bulletproof for a cheap setup.
How tall is this bucket with the lid attached?
Peter Vargas on Jan 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: With lid, it is right at 15", perhaps just under by an 1/8" or so. This does not include the airlock.
A lot of people seem to be having trouble with the lid. Is the problem with getting the lid seated on the threads, or getting the lid sealed tight enough to be airtight? Also, what size airlock stopper is needed?
Angela Angelovic on Nov 17, 2021
BEST ANSWER: It can be a little tricky to get the lid on and off. Once you do it a few times it becomes quite easy. From my experience, It is not an air tight lid. There is enough positive pressure during primary fermentation, that I have not had any problems with oxidation and the airlock bubbler bubbles just fine. The spigot has leaked on me, it was because I did not tighten it correctly. I found a suggestion to use the spigot grommet on the outside and only tighten the ‘nut’ from the inside. Ie: don’t spin the spigot. If I do that it works fine. I typically double check that seal before adding any wort. The fermenter comes with a lid, an airlock and airlock stopper and a spigot and spigot grommet. So it is complete and ready to use ( after sanitation). But if you need a airlock stopper, it’s part number FE349. I really like this size, and it totally comes apart so I can really get it clean and sanitized. I have not noticed any flavor or aromas linger from batch to batch.
Lid diameter?
Gregg Crawford on Sep 18, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The lid is 11.5” in diameter
I suppose using this as a fermenter and bottling bucket that the bottle conditioning approach must be used, correct? Otherwise if you use this how could you do batch conditioning with all the trub at the bottom?
José Amador on Sep 30, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Not sure on batch conditioning as you would want to get off yeast. Unless siphon yeast off bottom-that would be tough. I used for a small batch and just transferred to second container to add sugar and bottled.
What is it made out of?
William Lewis on Mar 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The fermenter is made out of polypropylene.

A Better fermenter then the MRB LBK
I brew only extract with some mini mash and steeping grains. Most recipes brewed in the LBK. This fermenter allows me to brew 2.5g batches. I have figured out the lid, not a problem. The lack of a full tight seal is also not a problem. I lube the lid mating with keg lube, gets a better seal. Most of the time I get a good bubble action in the air lock. The spigot, I use the flat 'o ring' on the inside and round 'o ring' on the outside, two gaskets. Dont over tighten. Check for leaks when sanitizing. It has been working great for me. I might try and find a 12.5inch by 1/8 O ring later to get a better air-tight seal . If I brew a 5g recipe kit I split it between 2 of these. I have 2 now, plan on another as the MRB LBK age out (only use them for 2 years)

Great Little Fermenter
I really like this smaller batch fermenter. I mark mine with volume gradients and noticed that one could likely brew 2.75 gal batches in these, and maybe a bit more as long as it’s lower gravity. There’s a few things I noted. The lid, to me, is a bit too secure. It takes a lot of effort to twist the lid on/off, though it does have cool grippy holes to help with this. My issue is that it seems easy to rile up the trub bed. I’ve actually just pressed the lid down without screwing it’s in place.

The spigot is interesting in that it can be disassembled to clean, which is great. However it’s placed in the fermenter a bit low so that the spigot has to be canted to sit flush, which is odd.

The air lock is just cheap junk, I threw mine away.

Overall I’m quite pleased and would recommend this.

2.5 gal fermenter
Despite the lid fastening issue other reviewers have complained about —and it is challenging—the fermenter is designed very well, and I use it primarily for secondary. The few times I used it as a primary fermenter I had to use my rubber mallet to make a better seal. But for the price, it was worth the minor inconvenience.

Great but some concerns
Very good quality but I can't give it perfect stars due to lid. I'm able to twist it on and off just fine but mu concern is how air tight it is. I can hear it fermenting from the side and not tye bubble lock. While I'm sure the c02 will be enough to keep out oxygen I am concerned about it ruined my batch of cider I made with fresh apples. Would had to waste a $50 beach from a $20 fermenter

Matched expectations
This is a good option for 2.5 gallon batches of mead. Lid is a little difficult but had no problem getting a seal the first time using it. I now have 2 of them as I liked the size and ease of use.

Just what I wanted for brewing a greater variety of beers.
Only reason for 4 stars is that you must install an O ring for the lid to seal. Other than that it is a very nice smaller fermenter. The lid is grooved for a 1/8" O ring that ideally would have been included. Regardless I ordered a 2nd fermenter. Also the capacity is a good 3.25 G with enough headspace. After the modification they are very good.
