Description

Abbaye is an ale yeast of Belgian origin selected for its ability to produce great Belgian style beers including high gravity beers such as Dubbel, Trippel and Quads. The propagation and drying processes have been specifically designed to deliver high quality beer yeast that can be used simply and reliably to help produce ales of the finest quality.

Brewing Properties:

  • Fermentation can be completed in 4 days above 17°C (63°F).
  • Medium to high attenuation and high alcohol tolerance.
  • Fermentation rate, fermentation time and degree of attenuation depend on inoculation density, yeast handling, fermentation temperature and nutritional quality of wort.
  • Low flocculation rate; settling can be promoted by cooling and by using fining agents and isinglass.
  • Complex aroma and flavors may include peppery, fruity, banana, clovy, alcoholic, sweet and fruity. Does not display undesirable odors when properly handled.

*See the technical data sheet below for information on rehydration, usage and storage.

What % of attenuation are you getting out of this yeast? It says 73% in my brewing apps.
Gary Layton on Apr 12, 2022
BEST ANSWER: I've brewed with it a couple times and averaged 76.5%. That was pitching 1 pack in 5.75 gallons with no aeration.

LalBrew® Abbaye Belgian Style Ale Yeast
I reverted to using dry yeast instead of propagating liquid, for ease of use in 20-30 gallon batches.
This stuff worked great in a Belgian Trippel, awesome Belgian flavor, fermented fine.

Great yeast!
I used this for a batch of Patersbier recently. The character was great! I pitched it directly into the primary and oxygenated the chilled wort and it took off within 8 hours. Fermented down to 1.009. Great abbaye ale smell and flavor. I will use it again!

For All Belgian Ale Styles
I've used this yeast in Belgian blond, tripel, dubbel, pale, and even witbier. Solid results in all. Works well at normal and high fermentation temps (up to low-80s). Lots of flavor.

Great for Strongs and Tripels
I used to use T-58 for my Golden Strong and Tripel, but switched to Abbaye and love the results. Average start time of fermentation, attenuates well (FG 1.007 on the Strong), and flocs out OK as you'd expect from a Belgian strain. Great flavor profile that is not as spicy as the T-58. ***I would like to note that the three packets I ordered were expired when I received them as another review mentioned. I took photos and sent an email to MoreBeer customer support. They asked if I wanted a refund or replacement. I went with the replacement and new yeast showed up on my doorstep in no time. Great customer service. Thanks!***
