Red Ale is technically not a beer style category. Oh, well. It was created (and is continually evolving) in microbreweries throughout the US. Usually very similar to Amber Ale but with additional, darker crystal malts. MoreBeer! takes a different approach. We make it red with 2oz of Roasted Barley. The result is a red-colored beer but without the deeper, caramalized flavors. We add a combination of Cascade and Northern Brewer hops that combine with the malt flavors to make this a unique beer you won't find anywhere else.

Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME)
MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style. LME is a viscous liquid, similar in consistency to maple syrup. In addition to being the more affordable option, many brewers find LME easier to handle than dry extract. DME is more condensed and comes in a powder format that is similar to baking flour. Although it’s a little more costly, DME is naturally lighter in color and stays fresher for longer. We highly recommend DME when brewing light colored beers.

This will spoil you
I love red ales and due to the lack of them on the market, decided to try my hand at home brewing. Brewed this as my first home brew. Used Cellar Science "Calli" yeast.

VERY GOOD. Beautiful color and very drinkable. A little less malt flavor than typical reds and mildly more hoppy. Still very satisfying. My only complaint might be that the ABV is a little low at 4.85, but that could be my technique. I was hoping for 5 % +.

This beer was so much better that I expected for a first brew attempt. Heck, remove the qualifier, it's still very good. I am very excited by home brewing and the potential results because of this beer. Everyone who tried it thought it was great.

I WILL brew this again!

Darn Good Red
This was just my second attempt at homebrewing, and it turned out great. A well balanced ale, a little on the hoppy side for a red, with a good amount of roasted malt flavor. Compares well to some of my favorite west coast reds. I'll definitely brew this one again.

Okay
I brewed this when my neighbor brewed the Irish Red Ale. His was much better. I think of red ale like I used to get in California called "Red Nectar", (sorry if I'm not supposed to mention that) and this was nowhere near as tasty, in fact it was nowhere near "red" either. Not a bad beer, in fact if I didn't know what it was supposed to be I would have really liked it. Just wasn't what I was hoping for.
