Description

4.3 °L - Briess Malting - This is an amazing malt from Briess that will add an intense smooth, sweet, smoky character to your beer.  The malt is smoked using Cherry wood, and on top of the classic smoke flavors, there will be an absolutely fantastic flavor and aroma of Bacon!  Very hard to go wrong making  a smoked beer with this malt.  10 - 20% of the grist will give a pronounced smoke character, and using more is only recommended for darker beer styles.

A great smoked malt
i love the smoke and a little bacon flavor. I was making a clone of Surly Smoke and I wanted to add a little bacon flavor to the mix.

SMOKIN!
It delivers a robust smoke aroma and flavor without any acrid-I-just-licked-an-ashtray quality. Its contribution to the beer mellows over time within the bottle, so if at first it is overpowering, just wait a couple weeks and retest.

Really good
I used 1 lb of this in a 5.5 gal extract recipe and it turned out great! I made a pretty basic wheat beer and added this and it's getting better reviews than I expected.

Great smoked flavor
This is my favorite smoked malt for adding a touch of complexity. It's not as overpowering as hickory or mesquite, and has a meaty flavor along with the smoke. There is no smoke bite to it at all.

Fantastic for Porter
Make your favorite robust porter recipe and use 2 pounds of this smoked malt in place of your 2 row or pale (or don't and make a bigger porter) and enjoy. 2 pounds will make you happy if you like a smoked beer, but keep in mind that it won't be like a German Rauch (which I love). 2 pounds gives plenty of smoke without overwhelming. For my beer that is almost done fermenting, I will be priming with maple syrup for a smoked maple porter. Beat that!!

Great with Maris Otter and Uk crystal 70
I used this cherry smoked ( 1 pound) with 8 pound Maris Otter and 1 pound UK crystal 70 to make an awesome batch of English brown. Also used 1/2 pound rolled oats to add more thickness. Hopped with fuggles and East Kent Goldings. Turned out great. Malty, bready smoky all together. Used Safale English ale yeast s-04. I have since ordered more of this Briess cherrywood to make another batch.
