Description

In wine, used to suppress naturally occurring microorganisms and prevent spoilage. Also works as an antioxidant. Add at a rate of 1 tab/gallon to achieve 75 ppm free SO2.  These tablets use potassium metabisulphate as opposed to sodium metabisulphate.  Potassium based campden tablets are generally preferred by winemakers who do not want to add excess sodium into their wine.

Can also be added to water to remove chloramine (1 tab is sufficient for roughly 5-20 gallons)

Is one tablet per gallon enough before bottling to ensure a good 1-3 year aging period?
Chad Green on Jun 16, 2021
BEST ANSWER: That's the general guideline, but there are a lot of factors. There are several calculators out there, they will help. search for sulfite or campden calculator

Does not dissolve, steer clear
These tablets did not dissolve at all and let a chalky residue in both of my Ciders I used them in. I thought it would dissolve over time, but it just would not.

Steer clear of these ones, and get the powder instead. First negative experience from a morebeer product and while it didn't ruin these batches I used them in, definitely ruins the experience to have a dirty glass after a dry cider. Shame I bought a pound, but I'll have to toss them because I won't be using them again.
Leaves a residue in the glass even after several weeks in solution.

Chloramine vs sodium. They're not the same
I finally got the right stuff after reading the article. Potassium is the one that transforms chloramine not sodium .

The powder is much better.
Little disappointed, even after crushing this batch doesn’t want to dissolve in the wine.

Not happy with the tables
These tablets will not break down, I’ve crushed them and left them overnight and they look like they did 24 hours ago.
Crushed, 24 hours later looks the same as when I put them in the water.

It's cheap, and it works!
I live in Houston, where our water is loaded with chloramine. One tablet is more than enough to deal with this issue. <$0.10 per batch to never deal with band-aid off-flavors is pretty sweet!

Strange question as we are 6-8 weeks from harvesting our Bordeaux grape. Call back in August!
