Description

The Cannular is a manual can seamer that is easy to use, reliable, and beautifully simple.

Whether you're a brewery looking to offer canned beer to go or a homebrewer wanting to keep your creations fresh and fully protected from light, the Cannular is the answer. This bench top unit is one of the most compact and easy to use can seamers you'll find. The Cannular only requires one person to operate, and each can takes roughly 5 seconds to seam. With a two-person team, one filling and one seaming, the Cannular becomes a suitable option for nano breweries doing small canning production runs.

The Cannular's table spacer is specifically designed to work with 500ml (16.9 oz) Can Fresh aluminum cans (CAN150).  330ml (11.2 oz) Can Fresh cans are also available (CAN133), but you will need the correct table spacer to use them with the seamer (CAN103). We have tested standard 202 cans and have been able to achieve good seals with proper adjustments.  It is necessary to adjust the table height to ensure you have the appropriate amount of pressure applied when the can lift is raised.

Operation:
The beauty of the Cannular lies in how truly simple it is to operate. With only three points of operation, it only takes a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the machine. The seaming process is as follows:
  • Place lid atop the can and place the can on the table spacer
  • Turn the platform lever clockwise to raise the can to the seamer
  • Press the button to turn the machine on and begin spinning the can
  • Push the seaming lever away from you and hold for 1-2 seconds
  • Pull the seaming lever towards you and hold for 1-2 seconds
  • Press the button to turn off the machine and stop spinning the can
  • Turn the platform lever counterclockwise to lower the can

That's all there is to it!

Construction:
The Cannular was designed to be compact, durable, and safe to operate in a wet environment. The platform assembly is made from 304 grade stainless steel, so no matter how messy your canning gets, there's no need to worry about rusting or degradation. The body of the unit is made from hammered sheet metal and fastened together with stainless steel screws. Rubber feet help keep the unit from slipping and sliding while in use. In addition, the Cannular features built-in brackets near the feet so you have the option to mount the machine to your counter or benchtop. The Cannular runs off of 24V DC power via the Anderson socket located on the back. This lower voltage was chosen specifically to make the unit as safe to use in a wet environment as possible.

Power:
As noted above, the Cannular comes with a 24V DC Anderson socket located on the back of the unit. It does not, however, include a cord and plug. When purchasing the unit, you have the option of pairing it with either a power supply with 110V plug (CAN101), or with a 6 ft. long cord with Anderson plug and alligator clips (CAN102). The power supply is straight forward, and allows you to plug the unit into a standard 110V power socket. The alligator clips give you the option to power the unit from a battery, and can even be used with an 18V cordless power drill battery. This is certainly the most affordable option for powering the Cannular, and we've found that upwards of 200 cans can be seamed on a single battery charge.

Why Cans?
So why can when you can bottle? There's no doubt that canning has become a more and more popular format for packaging beer among craft breweries over the last several years, and with good reason. Aluminum cans aren't just more environmentally friendly than bottles, since cans require less energy to transport and recycle, they're also much better at protecting the quality of the beer. Whereas bottles allow in light, which leads to skunking, aluminum cans offer 100% protection from UV and other wavelengths of light that are harmful to beer. There's still great debate surrounding whether cans or bottles are better at keeping beer fresh, but if done correctly, cans are theoretically the superior option. When a crown cap is crimped onto a bottle, the lining of the cap can form an imperfect seal on the bottle, allowing small amounts of oxygen in, as well as small amounts of CO2 out. Over time this can result in oxidation of the beer and lost carbonation. Seamed cans, on the other hand, form a much better seal that can prevent these issues. Of course, it's important to make sure that the can is purged of oxygen before being filled, and that the can lid is sealed atop foam to eliminate oxygen from the headspace. Aside from all the "sciency stuff", cans are just plain safer. Take your beer backpacking, camping, or poolside and rest assured that broken glass won't ruin your day!

Specifications:
  • Power: 250W 24V DC
  • Rated Speed: 3300 RPM
  • Gearbox Ratio: 9.8 : 1
  • Dimensions: 14" L x 9" W x 19.5" H
  • Weight: 40 lbs

*Please note: the table spacer included with the Cannular is specifically designed to use Can Fresh 500ml aluminum cans, which are 167.8mm tall and 52.4mm in diameter.  See below under "You Might Also Need" for an additional table spacer that can be purchased to make the seamer compatible with 330ml cans.

**Note 2: When you receive your cannular the rollers have been set and tested at the factory. They should not need adjustment for 100,000 cans. We recommend testing at least 4 cans to verify the calibration. The table, however, comes unadjusted and getting it set up correctly is very important to getting a proper seal. Cannular's test show that a minimum 0.4mm (.015") actual overlap is needed to seal to 90 PSI. The proper table tension takes a little practice and expect to waste a few cans getting it dialed in. Once you learn the proper tension re-adjusting it is very quick and easy. You want the tension to be tight but not so tight as to dent the can. Use cans at your fill height with water for proper tension adjustment.

What cans are able to be seamed with the Cannular seamer out of the box? The pictures and video appear to be seaming a 16oz can and no accessories are shown. Is the Cannular able to seam 12oz cans out of the box or are additional accessories needed for 12oz cans? Will MoreBeer be selling empty cans as well?

When is this machine going to be available?
John Milne on Jun 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi John - We do not have a guaranteed ETA as to when the can seamer will be available at this time, but an educated opinion would be sometime between July and August is when we should receive them from the supplier.
Can i use this Cannular machine with aluminum cans (12 and 16oz) with CDL lids?

BEST ANSWER: No
Has anybody figured out a way to use typical pub cans? You know, the ones that every brewery uses. The only draw back that I have found with machine is that you HAVE to use their line of cans.
Nathan Galeota on Jul 6, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I use 473 ml cans not the 500 ml cans the unit is set up for. I had a spacer made at my local machine shop. its about 1/2 inch. On the base of your machine the stainless steel handle that raises the can is attached by 3 hex nuts on the under side. Take that off and reattach with your spacer. it will lift up enough that you can use standard 473 ml cans. Voila, Done!! worked great for me. Cheers happy canning.
Will there be a spacer produced that will allow for standard, US sized 16oz pint 202 lid cans?
Matt White on Apr 8, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I had to ask a friend to take measures and 3D print the spacer, cans are a lot cheaper
Will this be available for pre-order or will we have to wait for it to be in stock?
Kevin Noall on Jun 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it will be available for a pre-order. Unfortunately we won't put it up for pre-sale until we get an ETA form our supplier.

Can you "can condition" i.e. bottle condition to carbonate beer in the can?
Robert C Beal on Dec 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you sure can. The cannular cans hold a similar amount of pressure compared to bottles.
I've been running my machine off of 12v for a while now. Should I be concerned about damaging the motor by not using 24v?
BEST ANSWER: No
hi, i'm from mexico, here only there are cans of 12 and 16 oz, i think are 202 b64. do you know if the seamer works?
Fernando Cid Ruiz on Aug 9, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Contact Kegland directly they are the manufacturer of the seamer
I have been running this off a 12v battery for a few cases. Should I be worried about motor damage not using 24v? Any other issues I should be concerned about using a 12v battery? Or is it fine to go as is?

Waste of Money. Do not buy.
Don't waste your money. I wish morebeer would move on from these kegland products that are cheap for a reason. I wasted 20 or so cans to get it calibrated the first time, and had high confidence that would be it and I wouldn't need to worry about that for a long time. I was definitely wrong. Canned maybe 80 cans and now it's back to not sealing. Such a piece of trash. Go get an Oktober and be done with it, stay away from kegland in general, if it's too good to be true it probably is.

Try this if seeming is off
I agree a little with the other reviews where seeming takes some practice and can be variable, with one exception. I didn’t mess with the factory calibration. I did find however when switching between 16oz and 12oz cans that seeming was off for 12oz even with the adapter. But I did notice that if the can isn’t fitting snug in the chuck when you lock the can in, then your going to get uneven and unpredictable seeming. One trick I found when switching to 12oz can using the adapter was to add an additional small washer or o-ring to adapter to add a little more pressure to can when it hits the chuck. After doing this, I was getting really consistent seeming.

Also watching the how to video and only apply pressure for 1.5 seconds each way is key. Over doing it will break the seem.

With that said, I would highly recommend the product for the price and usefulness of canning once you get hang of it. Way more fun and better then bottling when sharing homebrew with family and friends!

Don't waste your money
Write your review here. It must be at least 20 characters long. Consider whether you would recommend this product and what you like or Since purchasing this product in Fall 2021, I have tried countless times to get this seamer properly setup. I purchased a digital caliper, recommended feeler gauge and followed several setup guides found on the internet including Kegland's comprehensive written guide as well as the Youtube videos, It just does not work consistently. Sometimes I can get four or five properly sealed cans followed immediately by 15 leaking cans. It's like it has a mind of it's own.
I live in Hawaii so shipping is very expensive which is why I traveled to the Riverside Morebeer store and took it home by plane. This piece of scrap metal belongs in the dumpster and I doubt anyone would buy it and I'm too honest to unload on anyone.dislike about it.

Calibration is impossible
Waisted many cans, time and energy using the proper feeler gauge and specifications from the manual. Will not seal properly, don't waste your time or money. Total disappointment.

Easy to use, high quality machine...but
Love this canning machine but for one thing: it did not come calibrated and it took me 30 cans and required the use of a digital caliper and feeler gauges to get the cans to seal properly and consistently. What is worse was the documentation and instructions were wrong--even some of the tolerances were way off. Not sure if this is part of the problem but the mechanism used to adjust the vertical dimension of the 1st Op and 2nd Op rollers changed since the manual was printed--and this design change makes fine-tuning of the rollers very tricky. The Cannular folks would be well-advised to connect the dots between their post-sales customer experience and their marketing success.

Very Unsatisfied
Disappointed with this product. I purchased this back in June and it does not get the job done. I’ve read the manual to setup and watched videos on how to adjust rollers and chucks. Nothing works. I ordered feeler gauges to assist in getting this machine working and still nothing. The fact that I’m still fighting with this machine is aggravating. I’ve waisted almost 100 cans trying to get this seamer so hold its carb and still nothing. I should’ve listened to the other brewers I know and purchased from “Oktober”. I’m sure a lot of people have had a great experience but this isn’t true for me. I’m to the point I’m ready to throw it away and call it a day.

This is a one trick pony. You MUST use the cans and lids it is factory set for. Don't plan to make any tooling changes to accommodate any other can sizes.

A spacer for standard US Pint (160z) 202 cans would make this perfect
I'm happy with my cannular. Took me a few hours to get it set up, but now it's seaming well. Build quality is good. Here's my main issue (and, by the way, if they sort this out, I'll come back and give a full five stars): it's built in Australia so it's really meant to work with European sized cans, 500ml and 200ml. That means you're locked into their cans. Despite that they sell it as compatible with all 202 cans. Even the product description is misleading saying "we've tested it with standard 202 style cans and achieved good seals with some adjustments". In the US we'd interpret that as working with standard US-style 16oz pint 202 lid cans, right? Well, that's not the case. The standard spacer is a hair too short for 16oz pint cans. The 200ml spacer is too tall. The base is adjustable, just not far enough to make it work. We were able to jury-rig the base platform to raise up just enough to get them to seal but that's not the most elegant solution. Basically, if they were to make a spacer for American 16oz pint cans (202 lids) this thing would be an absolute steal. Imagine being able to get any kind of 202 can and seam it up! That would be a gamechanger and I'd happily come back and give it the 5 stars it deserves at that point. Fingers crossed.
