Description

The Cannular Pro is a semi-automatic can seamer that is easy to use, reliable, and beautifully simple.

Whether you're a brewery looking to offer canned beer to go or a homebrewer wanting to keep your creations fresh and fully protected from light, the Cannular is the answer. This bench top unit is one of the most compact and easy to use can seamers you'll find. The Cannular only requires one person to operate, and each can takes roughly 3 seconds to seam. With a two-person team, one filling and one seaming, the Cannular becomes a suitable option for nano breweries doing small canning production runs.

Cannular Pro vs. Manual Unit
This new Semi-Auto Pro model will guarantee you get a consistent seaming process every time. Unlike the less expensive manual can seamer, this machine has no lever for the seaming operation, meaning it's even easier for the operator to seam the can consistently and will not vary on how hard the operator is pulling the lever.

Another major difference is that the Cannular Pro's table spacer is specially designed to work with all standard 202 cans, including the industry favorite 16 oz (473ml) and 12 oz (355 ml) cans, as well as our 500ml (16.9 oz) and 330ml (11.2 oz) Can Fresh Aluminum Cans. Unlike the manual model that requires a secondary table spacer for use with 330ml cans, the Pro model features an adjustable platform, allowing you to raise or lower the table spacer depending on what size can you're seaming. It is necessary to adjust the table height to ensure you have the appropriate amount of pressure applied when the can lift is raised.

The Cannular Pro can be adapted for use with 32 oz Crowlers (Ball 300 can/end). To seam Ball 300 end/lid type oversized aluminium cans you will need to purchase the required Chuck for 1L (32 oz) Crowlers separately (coming soon).

The Cannular Pro can also be adapted for use with Tin Plated Steel Cans for food packaging applications. The table spacer is designed to accept these 100mm cans, but you will need to purchase the required 100mm Chuck separately.

Operation:
The beauty of the Cannular lies in how truly simple it is to operate, and the semi-automatic pro model makes canning beer even easier. With only three points of operation, it only takes a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the machine. The seaming process is as follows:

  • Place lid atop the can and place the can on the table spacer
  • Turn the platform lever clockwise to raise the can to the seamer
  • Press the seaming operation button then wait for the can to stop spinning
  • Turn the platform lever counterclockwise to lower the can

That's all there is to it!

Construction:
The Cannular was designed to be compact, durable, and safe to operate in a wet environment. The platform assembly is made from 304 grade stainless steel, so no matter how messy your canning gets, there's no need to worry about rusting or degradation. The body of the unit is made from hammered sheet metal and fastened together with stainless steel screws. Rubber feet help keep the unit from slipping and sliding while in use. In addition, the Cannular features built-in brackets near the feet so you have the option to mount the machine to your counter or benchtop. The Cannular runs off of 24V DC power via the Anderson socket located on the back. This lower voltage was chosen specifically to make the unit as safe to use in a wet environment as possible.

Power:
As noted above, the Cannular comes with a 24V DC Anderson socket located on the back of the unit. It does not, however, include a cord and plug. This unit uses the more powerful Pro Model Power Supply, which provides enough power to seam tin plated steel cans as well as aluminum cans.

Why Cans?
So why can when you can bottle? There's no doubt that canning has become a more and more popular format for packaging beer among craft breweries over the last several years, and with good reason. Aluminum cans aren't just more environmentally friendly than bottles, since cans require less energy to transport and recycle, they're also much better at protecting the quality of the beer. Whereas bottles allow in light, which leads to skunking, aluminum cans offer 100% protection from UV and other wavelengths of light that are harmful to beer. There's still great debate surrounding whether cans or bottles are better at keeping beer fresh, but if done correctly, cans are theoretically the superior option. When a crown cap is crimped onto a bottle, the lining of the cap can form an imperfect seal on the bottle, allowing small amounts of oxygen in, as well as small amounts of CO2 out. Over time this can result in oxidation of the beer and lost carbonation. Seamed cans, on the other hand, form a much better seal that can prevent these issues. Of course, it's important to make sure that the can is purged of oxygen before being filled, and that the can lid is sealed atop foam to eliminate oxygen from the headspace. Aside from all the "sciency stuff", cans are just plain safer. Take your beer backpacking, camping, or poolside and rest assured that broken glass won't ruin your day!

Specifications:
  • Power: 250W 24V DC
  • Rated Speed: 3300 RPM
  • Gearbox Ratio: 9.8 : 1
  • Dimensions: 16" L x 9.5" W x 21" H
  • Weight: 40 lbs
  • Splash guard not included
  • Max Can Height: 7.75" (197mm)

Please note the pictured splash guard is not included with the seamer. Please see CAN106 to add the splash guard to your order.

Please note: When you receive your cannular the rollers have been set and tested at the factory. They should not need adjustment for 100,000 cans. We recommend testing at least 4 cans to verify the calibration. The table, however, comes unadjusted and getting it set up correctly is very important to getting a proper seal. Cannular's test show that a minimum 0.4mm (.015") actual overlap is needed to seal to 90 PSI. The proper table tension takes a little practice and expect to waste a few cans getting it dialed in. Once you learn the proper tension re-adjusting it is very quick and easy. You want the tension to be tight but not so tight as to dent the can. Use cans at your fill height with water for proper tension adjustment.

I'm having power supply problems, when I first plug it in the green lights on the buttons light up for a second or two then fade back off, motor wont operate at all. Anyone else had anything similar? I'm thinking I may have received a faulty transformer...

BEST ANSWER: We have brought this issue up with the manufacturer and are working with them to get replacements. In the meantime the standard Cannular power supply (CAN101) should work with Pro; however, it does not provide enough power for tin cans, just aluminum. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Cheers!
It works with CDL-202 TOP?
Gustavo Altamira on Oct 6, 2022
BEST ANSWER: It has for me. I use commercial available cans/ lids as well as the slightly taller cannular brand cans/lids with no issues via a 3 D printed spacer. Seems to work well with multiple brands of can and lids. Have about 900cqns through it and it works great.

Very solid machine
I have been using this in my brewery for 6 months, probably more than 4000 cans through it now, running like a champ.

Really want to like this machine, but it is making it difficult
As many others have said, the fact that it comes with no manual is disappointing. Also, mine has been difficult to calibrate. It was definitely not calibrated right out of the box.

I have felt like it was dialed in on several occasions, but I can get through about a keg and 3/4 (roughly 50 cans) before the seams start leaking again. Very frustrating, as everything appears to be tightened correctly, and it still manages to lose calibration.

Not feeling that it is worth the money. The idea of cans is great, but having to calibrate so often (not to mention that you have to buy the splash guard separately and the guard is too short for 16 oz cans) isn't worth the trouble and wasted beer.

So fast, so easy
This canner makes it so easy to can beverages. It can take a little dialing in to get the best possible seams, but the result is identical to a any commercially-produced can that I have checked.

Good luck, this thing is a nightmare
If you want to use this for 32 oz crowlers, it does not come set up, and the calibration of spinning heads is literally a nightmare. I’ve burned through 70-80 cans trying to get the seam right but it feels impossible. Really frustrated w with this product. Also who ships a product without a power cable??? Really not satisfied with this thing.

Superior to the manual version
I had the version with the lever to move the dies to seal the cans. Had several cans from each session with bad/poor seals. Upgraded to the 'Pro' version and I haven't had a single can without a solid crimp/seal on it.

The fact that you simply set your pedestal height (no second changing bases) and then push a button in order to get the machine to do the job is also a great thing. I'm using sealed cans for both heights to set that. Fill the can, place lid on top, and then push the button and done. Removes human error from the mix ensuring you get a correct seal/crimp every time.

I've also not needed to do any adjustments to the dies since it arrived.

Be sure that the can feels like it's locked into place when you place it against the dies. If it's not in there fully (but not too far) the pedestal will tend to move and start to drop while the can is being sealed. Going a partial turn higher typically gets the height correct. Use the lower 'locking' ring to keep the pedestal where it need to be. I also tighten the pedestal handle against the threads (of the main screw) so that there's less chance of it moving on me. Doing it this way I've had ZERO issues.

Great canner
We bought this and before even plugging it in we swapped the tooling over for 32oz crowlers. We found a good video online to help with the fine tuning.
First Crowler sealed fine, although the machine sounded like it struggled a little…. So we made a little tweak and tried it again…. And it sealed again just fine, although with less “grunting” (I should mention we bought the empty crowlers from Oktober)
A few days later we canned 10 gallons of beer in less than 60 minutes as we figured out a good “assembly line process”.
Highly recommend the canner. Can’t wait to put it thru some more abuse in the heats to come.
We are opening a 2BBL brewery withiin the next 12 months and will probably buy another canner to leave set up for 12oz cans since it’s not easy to switch back and forth.

Works great
This thing is awesome. It came fully adjusted for the 16 oz cans I purchased. I watched the videos how to adjust and was prepared to go at it but it came ready to role. I immediately canned three 5 gallon brews. About 35-40 cans each. Works perfect every time. I bought the power cord also. It worked perfect. I bought the splash guard but did not need it. I am using sugar to carbonate so not suds mess. Beers should be ready to drink any day.

Found an instruction manual online
Worked right out of the box the first time I used it. Second time the seams were perfect on half the cans but leaked on the other half. Third time, I had only 4 cans out of 30 with a perfect seal. I found the manual online https://www.brouwland.com/content/docs/020/020%20Canning/020.200.2%20Semi%20Automatic%20Cannular_MAN_EN.pdf.
It turns out that I never tightened the coupling nut on the turn table so the table height moved slightly when the can spun. After adjusting the height and tightening the coupling nut, the Cannular seals perfectly again. It seems like enclosing a printed manual with the can seamer would be a good idea. It would have saved me an afternoon of frustration and many damaged cans.
