Description

Foam Axe by CellarScience is a uniquely formulated anti-foaming agent that increases fermenter capacity and reduces the risk of kettle boil overs. By reducing surface tension, bubbles are Axed before they can form. Foam Axe actually increases head formation in the finished beer by retaining foam forming proteins that would have normally blown off during fermentation.

Use:
In the fermenter, add 1-2 drops per gallon at the start of fermentation. In the kettle, add 1 drop per gallon before the boil starts to help prevent boil overs.

Additional Notes:
Foam Axe is made from food-grade silicone and works by breaking up foam particles and dispersing surface tension. Foam Axe settles out of beer prior to bottling or kegging. Store cool and in an environment below 90°F. Do not freeze.

The recommended shelf life is 6 months from the date the package is opened.

I have been using Fermcap and saw this as a new product and wanted to give it try. It looks like it doesn't require refrigeration so that is a positive too.

Data sheet says good for 6 months after production. Description on the product pages says 12 months from opening. Which is correct?

Worked as advertised to significantly reduce foam
I recently used Foam Axe in both the boil and fermenter. It really worked as described. During boiling I didn't experience the "hot break" moment that I typically did, where the wort is apt to boil over quickly if your not careful. I then used it during fermentation. It completely eliminated the typical "blow-off" I almost always experience high volumes of foam generated from very vigorous fermentation. I am extremely pleased with the results and would highly recommend this product.

the stuff seems to work good, I don't like the dropper
I like this product as a defoamer, the dropper seems hard to unscrew, though, so i gave it a 4

No boil overs!
I use this when making 2-liter yeast starters. Stove top boil overs are messy and annoying. With this, no more boil overs.

Big beers or small kettles
Even though I have a 22 gallon kettle, my big beers for even 10 gallon batches would want to go right over without intermittent flame and spray down intervention throughout the whole boil. This stuff makes my brew day less stressful.

Amazing
Stop fighting the foam and get this already. A few drops and the angry boil over gods are at bay. I finally got a hold of some of this and my last brew day was such a pleasure when it came to the boil stage. At the first sign of the brew gods demanding to give me more clean up work I plopped in a few drops and the eruption subsided with the quickness, I was in awe at how fast it knocked it down. I will make sure to always have this in my arsenal from now on for not only the piece of mind but the safety of my floor and time from the clean up it prevents.

Perfect for single vessel all grain systems
Excellent boil over control in my Anvil Foundry which with a heavy grain bill often threatens boil over without constant stirring. A few drops of this and the entire boil was set it and forget it.
