Description

A synthetic cork with the ability to last 4 years plus. Supercorks are manufactured in Italy by Enolandia. One of the very first companies to make a synthetic cork, they have a history of quality since the 1980's. Supercorks have been tested to keep their elasticity and sealing integrity for at least four years. This makes them a nice alternative for winemakers who want to eliminate the potential issues of porosity or TCA contamination inherent in cheaper natural corks but also want the ability to age wine more than a few years. This cork measures 23x43mm.

Durable and easy to use
The trick to using these cork is to heat them a little in warm water (say 120 degrees) prior to corking to make them a little more pliable. These corks are value priced and do not deteriorate near as fast as the agglomerated corks. They are a little more difficult to remove from the wine bottle but this can also be remedied by sharpening the point of the cork screw.

Difficult to cork bottle with this cork and extremely difficult to remove cork from bottle
My wife uses a floor corker to cork bottled wine bottles. I ordered these corks because they are supposed to last a long time. However, the first time she tried to cork a bottle with this cork, she didn't have the weight or strength to get the cork into the bottle. I took over the job of corker and we bottled 28 bottles. I thought that was the end of the problem until I tried to remove one of these corks from the bottle. They won't come out with a standard cork puller (two stage). I have a special cork puller that will, with enough effort, remove the cork. I don't recommend this cork for anything that has to be opened.
