Use this 2 micron oxygen stone with an oxygen source or aeration pump to provide your yeast with oxygen before or during fermentation. Macro-oxygenation, or adding oxygen during the fermentation aids in promotion of yeast growth and general yeast health which results in stronger finishes and fuller flavored wines. In our experimentation, the oxygenation has helped to soften the wine by reducing the sensation of tannins, while simultaneously allowing more fruit to come through. Can also be used for degassing wine with nitrogen. Use with 1/4" ID tubing - D1702.

Note: if you are using an aeration pump, we recommend a "deep water" type for aquariums, as these will have the necessary PSI to force the air through the stone and into the juice/must.

You can learn more about the use of oxygen during fermentation by reading our Guide to Macro Oxygenation and Fermentation

316 Stainless
1/2" diameter. Stone is 1" in length. Overall length is 1 7/8"

Sanitizing your Diffusion Stone:

To properly prepare your stone for use, we recommend you boil the stone portion in water for 3-5 minutes. By heating the stone to boiling temperatures you kill all possible contaminants that may be hidden within the stones micro pores. Using a surface sanitizer is not a guarantee from contamination. Boiling also greatly reduces clogging issues by helping to remove sugar residue.

If boiling is not an option, for whatever reason, we recommend the next best, soaking in Star San. Star San will remove a majority of surface contamination/bacteria, but will not sanitize the interior of the stone which may or may not be contaminated.

Please note that you do not want to touch the stainless stone portion with your hands. The oils on your fingers can actually clog the small pores in the stone.

Great diffusion Stone
This is a great and affordable product. use this with a small oxygen cyl from Home Depot or Lowes. Works great for aerating your wort before pitching the yeast.

A must in homebrewing..
I do prefer my SS 1/4" tubing that has a stone on the end. It is easier to use and I sanitize it in the oven.

affordable and effective
Stones were always pricey when i saw them in homebrew shops. This one was fairly inexpensive so was an easy purchase. Produces lots of tiny bubbles, helps with fermentation and even though i don;t use it for carbonation, i like that it had a dual purpose.

A must have addition to your brewing equipment
This really helped me take my brewing to the next level. I used to just shake the carboy, but now I attach the brew diffusion stone to an aquarium pump and let it run for about half an hour. On high gravity beers it will tend to foam a bit, so keep an eye on it. Next step is to attach it to an O2 tank.
