What is the grain basket’s capacity of the DigiBoil mash upgrade kit?
Nick Arleth on Sep 27, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Nick - the recommended maximum grain bill is 18 lbs. The recommended minimum grain bill is 8 lbs.
If I plan to use a separate boil kettle can I use this as a mash tun without the mash pipe?
Kenneth Dickie on Dec 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Kenneth, you will need the mash pipe for the mash because of the false bottom screen they hold. The mash pipe will also keep the grain from getting in contact with the bottom (will prevent scorching of your grain).

Works great, measured wattage over 1700 at the plug so boils faster than 1500 or 1600 watts.

Not bad for the price but....
I haven’t drank any beer I made with this so this is only my impression from brewing two batches. Overall for the price it’s a good buy as a kettle only. Doesn’t really get a full hard boil. The biggest problem is the mash. You can set the mash temp but the temperature difference between the top of the mash and the bottom of the kettle where the heat sensor is is huge. I set it to mash at 148. So the bottom of the kettle was 148. The top of the mash was 134 when I checked it. 14 degree difference. The short is I need to buy a pump. Or I might just mash in my cooler. I wouldn’t buy the mash kit. If I didn’t have to brew indoors I would stick to my old propane burner.

Maintaining a consistent mash temp with the element is a little difficult. I’m going to have to start insulating when mashing. Other than that, works well. Time to 163 is about 45 mins.
