Description

Distilled hop oil is an amazing new product we are making available to homebrewers.  Distilled hop oil varies from other oils in that it is produced from fresh hops, as opposed to dried and processed pellets.  Distilled hop oil delivers the same wet hop character that was previously only possible to acquire with the use of freshly harvested hops.  The oil is extremely shelf stable, so you can now brew a consistant fresh hop IPA all year long. Extremely volatile, this oil should only be used for aromatic applications; typically applied at bottling/kegging.

Distilled hop oil is very potent; add to taste. We recommend using roughly 0.5-1 ml per 5 gallon batch, if replacing 50-100% of a dry hop, added directly to the beer prior to bottling or during kegging. Be careful to not push off the volatile aromatic compounds (disturb the beer as little as possible and reduce oxygen exposure). Most staff members here found that 1ml per 5 gallons was "too hoppy" when replacing 100% of the dry hop.  Hop heads (myself included), found that the 1 ml per 5 gallon dosage gave a pungent, fresh, pleasurable and unique hop experience.  Tasting these oils is as close to being in Yakima for hop harvest as possible!

I'll probably buy it again
Super easy and no plant matter, but more aromatic than flavorful (added a couple days before bottling). Expensive for the end result, but worth it for the ease

Transformational Oil
Adding several drops to a glass of typical industrial lager can make a delightful drink with wonderful aroma.

Really Interesting Stuff
I would agree with another review that it has a wet hop or hop candy sort of flavor, and it's El Dorado so it kind of has a cheery candy thing going on. I used half of the bottle (three drops) in a 5.5 gallon keg of hazy IPA and the flavor was definitely there. I'm glad I didn't use more than that. I added 1 drop to a pale ale and 1 drop to a sour and it helped boost the flavor both times. I'm about to buy another one right now. It's a great ingredient, just know that less is more and it's not a replacement for a good whirlpool addition and dry hopping, but it is something totally different and that's awesome in its own way.

Amazing stuff
Brewed a NEIPA which was great in all aspects except hop aroma, so I decided to give this a try. Holy crap does it transfer aroma, and a little bit of flavor. I dipped a pin into the vial and ran it under the tap as I was pouring my beer. Did a side-by-side with a non-oiled one, and they were two different beers. I brew 10 gallon batches, so I might just try splitting a vial between 2 5-gallon kegs and see what happens. I like this stuff.

Disappointed
Not what I expected. Disappointed with flavor. Plastic after taste. Will stick to the real hop and pellets.

Adds fresh hop aroma
Using a syringe, I put 2 tiny drops in a 20 oz bottle of Barleywine and everyone who tasted it were gushing with compliments. Adds fresh hop aroma to beer that is hard to obtain with stored hops. So far, not as successful with kegs.

Go easy on this! 1 mL in 5G really was borderline excessive. A bit green notes, but first time using El Dorado so perhaps expected?

Super concentrated hop freshness
I was really excited to find this here, and it put me over the top for free shipping. This vial is really small - 1mL is TINY. But man does it pack a punch. Dipped a toothpick in the vial then into a glass of beer - not even close to a drop was transferred yet the flavor and aroma was immediately there. Be careful with these small dosings! Flavor profile is perfect match for the aromas coming off my El Dorado pellet dry hopped IPA, but without the green vegetal funk that persists for the first 5 days or so. Once the aroma starts to fade on that batch, this little bad boy will kick it up a notch.

Have not yet had a chance to see how it ages and whether it fades, mellows or integrates nicely, but I'm hoping once its in the keg it has no way to get out but through me.

Here's to hoping we get more options in distilled and cryo-hops!

Definitely adds a distinctive hop aroma, not a replacement for traditional dry hops.
This hop oil definitely adds a distinctive hop aroma which carries a small bit over into flavor, perhaps unsurprisingly. The description MoreBeer gives seems accurate. The aroma is reminiscent of wet hop character, and also of hop candy. Very distinctive. For reference, most will likely find a single small drop into a full pint of beer to be overwhelming. Not a lot of difference apparent between the two available varieties when tasting side by side. When you get too high on the dosing there is an almost chemical aroma.
