Description

Anton Paar is a leading producer of analytical testing equipment for commercial breweries. Borrowing some technology from their high end machines, the EasyDens digital gravity/alcohol tester is designed for savvy homebrewers and small commercial breweries.  It is a precision gravity/density testing unit which can accurately read gravity with a tiny 2 ml sample at any point in the brewing process.  Alcohol % can also be tracked at any point during fermentation. The unit hooks up to your smartphone via Bluetooth and stores various fermentation "profiles" enabling you to track fermentation progress, alcohol levels, and help know when it's time to keg & drink your beer!

See the documents tab for frequently asked questions about the Easy Dens.

Have used Anton Paar DMA at work for many years and like it. Trust this brand for a reasonable priced Brix measuring device for home use.

I'm a commercial brewer and use this device at the brewery , its accurate and a great product, now I want one for my pilot batches at home, its pricy but well worth the investment in my opinion.

Can this be used to determine alcohol content in wine?
William Andrews on Feb 21, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Not as far as I can tell. I tried many samples and nothing I measured was even close except vodka. Notice that the documentation about this feature is really vague and inconsistent depending where you read it. Does it require a starting gravity? This site's description indicates such but I don't think that's true. It tells me that a 14% dry red wine is 4% alcohol. Don't buy it for that feature!

Awesome!
If you can handle the price this thing is amazing. Very fast, very accurate, and extremely easy to use with their U-Brew app.

Use the plastic cover that comes with it - it functions very well as a stand and also protect it from potential spills.

pretty awesome if you're not trying to measure alcohol
I'm loving this thing so far. I've been using it daily for a couple weeks now. A couple things I don't like knock off one star.

1) The alcohol measurement simply does not work (for wine/mead anyway (even if it's dry)). It does not work on the far more expensive DMA35 either. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY unlocking that feature in the app like I did! I think it works ok for spirits only.

2) This thing really needs a leg or something to stand on. It can't be used with one hand since it'll just fall over. You also can't really lay it down on its back since you need to stick tne syringe into the top to push the sample through.
To remedy this I designed and 3d printed a stand that holds it at a 30 degree angle so it's stable and usable.

3) The plastic cover that comes with it is cheap and useless. It feels like a piece of packing material that you'd normally throw away. As soon as I saw it I realized there was no way I was going to bother with it.

The great things about this are:
1) You can get readings with a tiny sample size. This is especially nice if you're fermenting things with fruit solids in it. You no longer have to get enough liquid out to fill up a tube to test it with a hydrometer.

2) It's super fast. You don't need to clean it in between samples either since the next one pushes the previous one out. I just rinse it out with distilled water when I'm done.

3) The app tracks the readings for you if you save them so you can look back at the history and not need to write it down.

Worth every penny
This is worth the cost, I use it all the time. The only downside is that alcohol % only works with clear spirits, you can't use it to measure the alcohol content of your beer or mead.

Easiest and most accurate way to check gravity that I have ever used. The owners of the brewery I work at wanted to put the ABV on the labels and I knew we needed a more accurate way to measure OG and FG. This was the best choice for the money.

Semi-pro level
Great semi-pro level instrument, but pricey. Its the only way to really get precise data on small batches throughout fermentation and still have beer left over. I usually pull 10-20 ml samples, enough to do 3-4 tests, get a pH measurement, and have enough to do a taste test. Great for numbers geeks and those looking to up their game for competitions or go pro.
