Can I do 2.5 gallon Biab with this kettle?
Gordy H on May 31, 2023
How long to reach boiling temps?
fred g on Mar 14, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Fred - It can take up to 45min depending on the ambient temperature of the brew area.
Does this unit come with a pump?
Vicente Z on Nov 12, 2023
Hope this is not a repeat question. I recently purchased the 9.5 gal kettle to start all grain brewing and noticed that there is a small hole in the lid but can't find anything that said what it was for. So, not to sound like a real beginner but I am, what is the small hole in the lid for? To defend myself early, there are dumb question but dumb question come from uneducated people working to become educated. And that's not stupid its smart.
Richard P on Dec 18, 2020
BEST ANSWER: We are here to help. There is a ton to learn and every homebrewer I've met wants everyone to make excellent beer and have fun doing it.

The hole in the lid is for letting out steam while bringing the kettle to a boil so you can keep the lid on and save some of the heat while still venting the steam in a responsible way. Once the boil starts in earnest you will want to remove the lid entirely so that all of the steam escapes easily and quickly. That is a very important step in brewing because of chemical reactions that happen during the boil.

Always feel free to ask everyone you can for advice. I've learned as much from new brewers as from veterans.
Hello. Would it be possible to connect a bazooka screen to the existing ball valve?
Stefan M on Oct 2, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I had no trouble attaching my bazooka screen to my Digiboil. It is a little tight but it should work for most screens.
Could the 9.25 gal digiboil be used for Brew In A Bag?
Joe S on Mar 2, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I used a mesh nylon bag in it for many brews with really good success. I eventually purchased the malt pipe-up grade kit and stoped using the bag. I would also suggest purchasing the insulated jacket and maybe a small recirculation pump. They helped me lower my heating times a great deal.
Can you brew malt extract beers in this? Or is this just for all grain homebrew. Thanks again
Bryce T on Jul 28, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Yes, totally. It is pretty optimal for extract brewing small batches. You need to keep a close eye on the boil though to keep it from foaming over due to the geometry (tall and narrow). The other limitation is transfer of wort. You'll want a solid stand to place it on to drain by gravity into your fermenter, or a pump. The nice thing is that with the thread on the spigot, a pump can be readily added on. It doesn't quite drain the bucket all the way since it's a sidewall mount, so be prepared to tilt at the end or pour the last few dregs out manually, or sacrifice to the gods the beer or two left behind. It is pretty much the perfect volume remaining for sterilizing for use as yeast starter on the next batch. The unit is kinda small for all grain, though I'm sure it is done either with an add on malt pipe or biab. Pretty much perfect for extract though.
Does this have a built in pump?
Graham R on Dec 30, 2022
BEST ANSWER: The DigiBoil kettle does not have a built-in (internal) pump, I use an external pump for my system.
Can I add a quick disconnect to the valve spigot?
John B on Mar 28, 2021
BEST ANSWER: The valve spigot is versatile enough to accept and .5 inch female threaded connectors of your choice. I’m still trying to figure out a solution for a pickup tube as the spigot is very specific to the kettle, othe ball style valves have not worked
Will this unit hold my sparge water at a constant 170 Fahrenheit?
David S on Sep 10, 2022
BEST ANSWER: It will hold from 168 - 170 reading at the thermometer on the bottom of the kettle. The water at the top may be lower in temperature without stirring or recirculating.
What is the minimum volume? Ie. If distilling what is the minimum amount of water that must remain in the boiler to prevent dry firing the element?
Casey T on Nov 18, 2021
BEST ANSWER: This is going from memory, but the temperature sensor sticks up from the bottom by about 1/4"-3/8" so I would imagine you would not want to use less than 1/4 of a gallon in a non-rolling boil. I would say 1/2 gal to be a little on the safer side. I try not to operate mine with less than a gallon of liquid which you have to estimate because the scale on the side starts at 3 gallons. I re-wired mine with a SSR voltage regulator and rheostat to drop the voltage across the heating elements in an adjustable way so that I can fine tune the wattage density of the elements, but I also found that dropping the power to below 10% can cause some sort of safety protection inside the controller which will switch the heat off without indicating such until the power is cycled. Upon opening up the bottom for re-wiring, I did see that it has a thermal snap switch secured to the bottom of the tank that will cut the power to the heating elements if the bottom started getting really hot, so you may be able to boil dry a few times before you do irreversible damage other than putting a mineral deposit on the bottom of the drum.
How long to boil 5 gallons of water?
Roger A on Mar 4, 2023
BEST ANSWER: It depends on the temp of the water, but after doing some research it seems that it typically takes a little less than 2 hrs for most people to get to a boil with 5g. Thanks!
Just purchased one and am waiting for it to come in. Have been making the 5-gallon extract batches in a pot on the stove using partial water. Question: If I add all the water up front, does the full boil remove all the oxygen and the fermentation is affected? Does anyone have experiences where I can just do the boil, cool down the wort, and pitch the yeast? Thanks.
Bob P on Aug 21, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I brewed this way for years.
I now use a diffusion stone to oxygenate the wort after pitching yeast. You want to create a healthy environment in which the yeast will thrive.
It’ll certainly work the way you describe it just works better if you oxygenate somehow
Is there any attachment cooling coil that would work with this unit or is an immersion chiller my only option?
Devlin L on Mar 16, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I don't think they make an upgrade kit for this that adds cooling. You'll likely want to invest is some of the more expensive versions of this kind of system for that. However, you could set this up with a plate chiller and a pump if you wanted to do something other than immersion.
Does the 1/2" barb fit a 1/2" ID tubing?
Lawrence G on Sep 15, 2024
BEST ANSWER: Yes. In fact, that's the size that I use. --Rob
Is there any way to calibrate the internal thermometer of the 35L 120 Volt Digiboil? I am doing a cleaning boil and while the internal thermometer reads 208 F degrees, my calibrated thermometer reads 212 F and there is a gently rolling boil.
Steven Johnson on Nov 17, 2022
BEST ANSWER: I don’t know how to adjust the thermostat. However, I recommend placing a label reading “Temp. +4” near the readout.
Can this unit be equipped with a rotating racking arm such as the Ss Brew bucket replacement racking arm?
Adam H on Jun 18, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Adam - It is definitely a possibility however, the Digiboil spigot would need to be removed and a racking arm would need fabricated to install.
Can this be used to upgrade an existing Digiboil 35L from 110 volt to 220 volt?

Wish it still had the metal lid
Received our second unit, and in the year and a half since we purchased the first one, someone decided to change the lid from metal with a plastic handle (no burn hazard from lifting the lid), to a heavier glass lid with a metal handle (read, burn hazard and potentially glass cutting issue when the lid will fall and shatter). Probably not the greatest idea in switching materials. I'm sure the main unit will work just fine. However, just not pleased about the lid change. Trying to scour the internet for a an original lid to no avail.

This is a fantastic product.
I have used my Digiboil for 2 batches so far and could not be more pleased. I use it to heat the mash water and sparge water. I mash in a 10 gallon cooler. Then I use it as a brew pot.

With the insulating jacket it takes 45 minutes to heat the mash water, 45 minutes to heat the sparge water, and about an hour to reach a boil.

The boil is more than vigorous enough. You have to watch carefully when you near a boil to prevent a boil over. I had to remove the lid and turn off the 500 watt element to prevent a boil over.

The Digiboil cleans easy, especially with a hops spider.

My only complaint is that it defaults to Celsius every time you turn it on.

Love this HLT
I love the Digiboil. It’s a perfect Hot Liquor Tank that has my sparge water ready to go, at the perfect temperature for mashout when I need it. I kick the Digiboil on when I start my mash and then can depend on it reaching sparge temperature and holding there until I am ready to draw a few gallons to wash all that sugar wonderfullness from my grains! Sure beats chasing a stovetop kettle with a thermometer- here I just set and forget.

Great product for candle making!
My first DigiBoil lasted a little over a year before the bottom caved and it started leaking. I quickly purchased another, and modified it so that wouldn't happen in the future. My old one is still fully functional after modifying it as well with some good ole JB Weld SteelStik. Now, I have another melter as a backup in case something happens.

Great kettle
The digiboil kettle is great for heating up the water and maintaining temp. I do notice inconsistency between temp at bottom and top of kettle. I'm sure that the insulating blanket helps to maintain. I choose to cycle water from the tap and pour back into the top to help equalize temp throughout.

DigiBoil Electric Kettle - 35L/9.25G (110V)
I use this as a Mash Tun for 5 gallon batches. Easy to set up, easy to use, easy to clean, holds temperatures pretty well. What more could you ask for. I ordered a 2nd unit to use as a HLT.
