Clear glass marbles are a great choice for filling up volume in a small fermenter or oak barrel. Most of us have been in that situation where we have the ideal container we want to use to store our wine, but we just don't have quite enough wine. What are your choices? Either use several smaller containers, buy wine to top up, or try to purge the air space with inert gas. None of these are ideal solutions.

Clear glass marbles, free of ink or contamination, are an ideal solution. Use just as much as you need to top up the vessel. When you transfer the wine out, remove your marbles, wash and reuse with your next batch (just don't lose them...)

3 lbs of marbles is enough to displace approximately 1 Liter of liquid.

I actually plan to use these to make sauerkraut, but that has all the same problems as storing wine: I need to submerge these in acid for an extended period to displace air.

Youre going to need more than you think
I apparently thought 3lbs was more than it is. Its exactly as shown but its a small bag so it wasnt enough for what i needed and ill have to get more. But ill look for cheaper because im not paying $25 again.

great alternative topping option in some situations
Sometimes I have a need for topping off a wine when I don't have a good alternative topping wine, or the volume needed is such that my available topping options are not optimal choices. These marbles are a great alternative in those circumstance and they clean up easily and are easy to sanitize and store for future use. Overall this is a good tool to have in one's home winemaking toolbox.

Worked Great! Just pick through them.
Worked great! I used 9 lbs. to top up my 5 gallon carboy of black raspberry wine. Just about a hand full had small cracks and bubbles close to the surface. I picked through and put them around one of my plants. Didn't want any small pieces to end up in my wine.

I will be buying more for my next batch. I'll just pick through them.

Food Fermenting
I was expecting larger size marbles. However, the size is working out well. I am currently using them loose in a quart size mason jar to top off vegetables to make kimchi. They are keeping the vegetables submerged in the brine nicely.

I plan on using them also when I make sauerkraut in a gallon jar. I will use the entire 3 lbs of marbles confined in nylon netting and place on top of the cabbage. I did a test with nylon netting and the marbles conform well within the jar and will cover the entire surface with plenty of depth.
