BrewBuilt® CoolStix™ Stopper for Fermonster & PET Carboys

I want to like this, but there are simply too many issues with this stopper that make it a high-risk-of contamination item.

1) it does not fit snugly into the fermonster lid #10 hole. It is even worse, when a thermowell, the coolstix and an airlock are attached (as designed!).
2) It tends to pop out with the slightest provocation ?
3) the large and heavy carboy coolstix puts uneven load on the stopper, and it pops out unless you find a "perfectly balance arrangement - during the search for such alignment, it will pop out repeatedly.

3) the holes are drilled too large for a tight, and importantly - airtight - seal with the cool sticks and the thermowell.

Tthis is aggravating, since this stopper's "one job", its reason for existing, is to keep the contents of the fermonster separated from ambient atmosphere, who'll accommodating the coolstix and the thermowell, and the airlock. Fail, over and over.

I have another stopper with only two holes which works much better - its tapered side is not smooth like this one, but ribbed.

I'll contact morebeer and see if I can return this item.

This product works.. sort of. Basically the holes are slightly too big so there is not a perfect air tight seal. The best solution is to wrap the airlock/coolstix and thermowell with a few layers of plumbing tape to help close the gap. After using the plumbing tape I’ve had no issues.

I have been very happy with the CoolStix in conjunction with a brew bag and frozen water bottles to enable me to brew lagers at controlled temperatures. Of course, this stopper is an integral part of this control system.
