Kveik is a Norwegian word meaning yeast. In the Norwegian farmhouse tradition, kveik was preserved by drying and passed from generation to generation. Kveik is the original, traditional dried yeast! The LalBrew Voss strain was obtained from Sigmund Gjernes (Voss, Norway), who has maintained this culture using traditional methods since the 1980s and generously shared it with the wider brewing community. LalBrew Voss supports a wide range of fermentation temperatures between 25-40°C (77-104°F) with a very high optimal range of 35-40°C (95-104°F). Very fast fermentations are achieved within the optimal temperature range with full attenuation typically achieved within 2-3 days. The flavor profile is consistent across the entire temperature range: neutral with subtle fruity notes of orange and citrus. Flocculation is very high producing clear beers without filtration or use of process aids.

I've played around with the liquid Voss Kveik strain from Omega, but haven't tried the dry version yet. I like the Voss a lot and hopefully its characteristics carry over well when it's in a dried form.

I picked this yeast due to me living in sacramento and not having a beer cooling system, yet for that matter. Pitch the yeast let it ferment for 2-3 days it's most likely finished.

Good Yeast
I've used this yeast for 3 different brews now, and it's currently cranking away at a 4th (sour this time). I keep it as high as my Grainfather conical will heat, which is usually around 93-94 degrees in my basement with ambient temp of 68.

Every beer has finished fast and tasted great! Definitely recommend.

Orange Zest
Split wort of Red IPA into two ferm vessels, pitched Kveik in one stored at 82°F and second using WLP-001 at 63°F. Kveik was done in 3 days, dry hopped and in the keg by day 7. Once 001 finished and carbed conducted semi-blind triangle test. Was able to pick Kveik sample every time due to not unpleasant (but not subtle) Orange zest flavor. While I liked the Kveik, I found the yeast flavors dominated the hops and preferred the 001 for a Red IPA. Will explore use in a Blond or at lower temps.

Easy and Excellent
I brewed a Simcoe SMaSH and pitched this. It was super easy (no rehydration needed) and it chewed up the sugars without causing any blow-offs. Started the temp at around 78 and ramped up to 85 over the course of a few days. I was actually slightly over on my intended FG but I think I mashed a bit low.

Would recommend to anyone!

I am a Kveik Convert
I bought this because I was interested in trying a beer with a Kveik yeast, but I only do small batches so I didn't want to invest in a large packet of liquid yeast that I wouldn't be able to fully use. I brewed a 1 gallon "Pilsner", pitched 5grams of this yeast, and fermented at 85F. 48 hours later, it was done. I let it sit another day, just to be sure, then batch primed and bottled it up. Four days later I was drinking my creation, so seven days grain to glass with no off-flavors. Not bad.
The resulting beer was good, it was much fruitier than a true pilsner, but it's an excellent lawnmower beer nonetheless and I'll be making this one again. Plus, I still have a half-packet of this yeast left for another experiment.
Highly recommended.

Voss Kveik in dry format, yes!
A dry form of Kveik which is exactly what I wanted. Liquid yeast is nice but when you have kids either brew day gets delayed or one of the little rug rats things the yeast pouch is a juice pouch.
