Good for adding mouth feel and body to extract brews without affecting flavor. Maltodextrin is added to the wort at the same time as the extracts. Maltodextrin is a chain between 4 and 20 dextrose units in length making it only 3% fermentable by brewer's yeast. It is naturally present in finished beers, up to 6% by weight. It is often also referred to as Dextrin Powder and sometimes Dextrine Powder.

Our maltodextrin is composed of .5% dextrose, 2.5% Maltose, 3.5% maltoriose, 93.5% higher saccaharides, and is made from corn. It is also available by the pound or even the sack.

Since maltodextrins are easily digestible carbohydrates, some long range cyclists and work out enthusiasts mix maltodextrin with water as an energy source.

Confused about the description above. Brewing an extract kit from Brewers Best that requires steeping of some grains. Should I be able to use MD for this extract recipe that calls for steeping? The above reads that MD does not respond well to AG. Not sure where an extract with steeping grains is categorized, still an extract or AG?

BEST ANSWER: When using specialty grains and extract we call that simply "Extract with specialty grains" or even just "extract". You can always add maltodextrin or any other powdered sugar to any batch you are making. Typically you won't using thickeners like this with an all-grain brew because you have the ability, through the mashing process, to determine how much unfermentable sugar remains. It is always good to have both Maltodextrin and Corn Sugar around just in case you miss a gravity or want to tweak the gravity of the beer.

Great for runners
Maltodextrin is the main ingredient in running gels, used because it's a tasteless form of glucose (eg 80% maltodextrin, 20% fructose). However, buying maltodextrin in bulk and mixing your own potions costs just one fifth as much as gels, per calorie.

Used for a great GF IPA!
One of the ingredients used to make a GF IPA. No one has detected it is a GF brew.
