Description

  • At just under 5%, we like to think of this beer as a hop lover's dream. A truly sessionable IPA overflowing with hop character
  • Includes Warrior®, Centennial, and Simcoe® hops
  • Estimated ABV: 5%
  • Estimated IBUs: 58-62
  • Makes 5 gallons of finished beer

If you're looking for a new session IPA to obsess over, look no further!  We recently changed this recipe slightly, making all finishing hops Centennial (rather than a blend between Centennial and HBC-342).  We made sure to keep the Simcoe® dry hop though, as we felt this really brought a "pop" to the aroma!

While the general rule of thumb has been "one or two IPAs and you're feeling it", at just under 5%, we like to think of this beer as a hop lovers dream.  The type of IPA that you can open up at noon, get the grill going, and forget worrying about how you're going to feel after drinking 8% IPAs for a few hours!  (Yes, we know that feeling too...)

A half pound of corn sugar helps this one finish out nice and dry, while a small amount of acidulated malt will help make those hops pop. The clean bitterness of Warrior® balances perfectly with a slightly sweet malt profile, all topped off with a white, frothy head thanks to the wheat malt.

So what are you waiting for?!  Order your kit today and let the obsession begin!

  • Makes 5 gallons
  • Estimated Original Gravity: 1.048-1.052
  • SRM (Color Range): 5-6
  • IBUs: 58-62
  • Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 5%

Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME)
MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style. LME is a viscous liquid, similar in consistency to maple syrup. In addition to being the more affordable option, many brewers find LME easier to handle than dry extract. DME is more condensed and comes in a powder format that is similar to baking flour. Although it’s a little more costly, DME is naturally lighter in color and stays fresher for longer. We highly recommend DME when brewing light colored beers.

Still my favorite.
My favorite. Just brewed my 49th batch (extract). I lapsed a couple of batches ago and forgot to add the 2oz of Centennial at flame out, so I saved it for the dry hop, and the result was excellent. Since then I modified the hop schedule to add 1 oz Centennial at flameout and 2 oz Centennial and 1 oz Simcoe at dry hop. This kit has been a family favorite for many years.

So balanced and delicious!
Fresh, malty, slight Belgian ale aromas, and a light hoppy IPA backbone. My favorite kit so far. Gonna definitely brew this again! My friends keep asking for more of my "Fraíche SIPA!"

Blonde Obsession is an addiction!
I was not prepared for the overwhelmingly successful response that this recipe generated. 5 gals went fast and my friends are still asking if I have any more.

On day 9, I dry-hopped with 1 oz each of Centennial & Simcoe as per directions for 3-5 days. However, I did not have time to keg until day 19. (10 days later!) I waited a day at 68d and then chilled at 38d with CO2 at 20lb.
On day 23, sampled a surprisingly refreshing, non-bitter taste though it was still a little 'green.'
On day 25, officially enjoyed with friends and it was the number one choice for 90% of the beer drinkers. That keg was emptied before the party ended. One friend who loves stouts and another wine, were constantly at that keg for refills and to me, was a great compliment. ABV 6.8% Simcoe is amazing!

Nice flavor
Has good flavor and a lower ABV%. Nice IPA flavor for a summer day since it is not too heavy.

So Good!!
This is only my 4th brew, but I have to say this is my favorite! Great hops flavor, excellent aroma and love the color. I will be ordering another one, so that when this one is gone, the other will be ready for drinking. If you like IPA's, try this kit, you won't be disappointed.

What an IPA should taste like.
I've been eyeballing this one for a long time and finally ordered and brewed it. I was not disappointed. The first thing I noticed after pouring was the beautiful light color and clean white head. The aroma of the Centennial and Simcoe is awesome. It's almost one of those beers you could be satisfied just smelling. It's an easy drinking IPA that won't knock you on your rear. I definitely recommend it.

Overall good
This is really a good IPA. Great blend of hops, not too bitter at all. Mostly nose feel especially with the dry hop. This is a good thing since the body is a little light malt wise. Great for hop heads who want to be able to have a few, or more... Certainly no kick your butt double IPA, but that's exactly what you need some times. Pitched dry yeast US-04, bottled at 2 weeks, perfect flavor after a month. Worth trying for anyone looking for a light IPA.
