Description

  • Pale Ale provides a rich malty flavor with hints of nuts and biscuit
  • Can be used as 100% of your fermentable sugar in extract brewing
  • Add for color correction, boost gravity, or improve head retention in all grain brewing
  • Briess Malt & Ingredients has had a focus on quality and innovation for more than 140 years, with all of their products being made in the U.S.A.

Dried Malt Extract (DME) is the primary sugar source in extract brewing and can be used in partial-mash or all grain brewing to adjust flavor, color and gravity of brews.  DME can also be used to increase head retention and body. Many brewers choose nutrient rich DME as the sugar source for making yeast starters as well. Briess dried malt extracts are made from 100% malt and water.

Pale Ale DME: 100% pure malt barley extract made from 100% Pale Ale Malt and water.

Pale Ale is a flavorful and unique DME available from Briess. A rich malty flavor with hints of nuts and biscuit, it can be used in the production of most beer styles, either as a base or to boost gravity.  The proprietary malting process creates a malt extract that is not only darker than golden light, but one that is rich and complex.

Typical Analysis:

  • Color (8° Plato): 6.0 SRM
  • Fermentability: 75%
  • Solids: 97%
  • 1.043 PPG

I wish they had Extra Light Extract but this will do. Better than LME for keeping the lighter color while extract brewing.

Highly overpriced
Purchased the .5# DME to bring an order for a wine kit up to the free shipping amount. Would not recommend buying such a small amount because it is ridiculously expensive compared to a larger package. Unless of course, you are using it as in my case.

More flavor than the light extract
This DME has (in my opinion) a much better flavor than the really light extracts; I use it for nearly every style unless it's a light lager. It has more grainy/bready flavor to my taste.

I use this all the time for yeast starters. Works great. I’ll even through it a batch of beer now and again to bump ABV.

Great for making Yeast Starters
I've been using this to make yeast starters and it has worked fantastically. I'm using 100 grams (3.5oz) per liter and come out with solid 1.040 wort.

Must have inventory for any home brewer
I use this mostly for yeast starters but always keep 3-5lbs on hand for when my mash decides to come up short. I hate it when that happens. Powdery brew day insurance ftw. Moorebeer packages in a nice thick multiple-mil bag. Once you open it, you'll want to reseal that bad boy or it will pull all the moisture out of the air and turn to hard candy. I recommend one of those vacuum sealer food bag systems.
