Description

A 30L (7.9 gal) food-grade plastic bucket. Ideal for all fermentations, but especially ideal for wine kits, beers that tend to have a high krausen (Hefe) and any fermentation that is slightly too large for your 6-gallon pail. These buckets come molded with a threaded hole for a spigot to screw into. Our FE356 spigot threads in perfectly.

Why Polypropylene?
These buckets are made from polypropylene as it is less porous and significantly smoother than other HDPE fermenters. HDPE is porous and can harbor microbial activity making it more difficult to clean and sanitize. Being less porous, polypropylene also does not absorb aroma like HDPE so there is less flavor carry over from batch to batch.

Approximate Dimensions: 15.75" Wide x 16.25" Tall

Click here for optional lid (FE357B) or full fermentation kit (FE357).

Please note: the spigot hole comes pre-molded into the bucket and needs to be drilled out before installing the spigot. We recommend using a 5/8" drill bit and taking care not to strip the female threads that accept the spigot. The spigot includes a back nut that won't be needed—simply remove the back nut and thread in the spigot with the gasket in between the neck of the spigot and the bucket. The lid forms a very tight seal and requires a decent amount of downward force to lock in place.

Does this bucket come with a drilled hole or just a threaded boss that needs to be drilled? I don't really need or want a spigot, but need the larger volume bucket.
David on Apr 7, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi David - This comes with a drilled hole and needs a spigot.
The responses to the two questions on the spigot hole are inconsistent. Is the spigot hole drilled or not? Can the bucket be used as a bucket without the spigot?
Jeffrey H on Aug 16, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Enter anI own two of these buckets. Both have a molded in boss pre-thredded to receive a spigot. one I drilled out for use as a fermenter and one I use as a bucket without a spigot. If you do not want to use a spigot and just use the bucket you are good to go. If you want to add a spigot you will need to drill out a thin section of plastic sidewall which seals the inside wall of the thredded boss. This note in the product description is precisely accurate: " Please note: the spigot hole comes pre-molded into the bucket and needs to be drilled out before installing the spigot. We recommend using a 5/8" drill bit and taking care not to strip the female threads that accept the spigot. The spigot includes a back nut that won't be needed—simply remove the back nut and thread in the spigot with the gasket in between the neck of the spigot and the bucket. Does the spigot hole come pre-drilled or can the bucket be used without a spigot?
Ben D on Apr 14, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The bucket does not come with the hole fully punched out. There are threads tapped into the bucket, but you will have to punch out the bottom of those threads to install the spigot.

Spigot poorly designed
If solely need a bucket, it's fine. The top seems to fit tightly and can be removed reasonably easily. I appreciate the markers on the side to measure the contents inside. However, if you are trying to add a spigot to the bucket, I would highly suggest a different option. First, you have to drill your own hole which is difficult to do without leaving a rough edge that will leave lots of places for bacteria to hide. Second, the spigot does not come with the bucket so make sure you order the one made for this bucket. Third, the threads on the spigot that is made for the bucket are plastic and barely fit the threads in the bucket. This means you can barely tighten the spigot. If you try to tighten it firmly, the threads let go and it becomes loose. One of the two buckets leaked, so I had to use a silicon sealer which means I can't unscrew it to clean behind it.

My guess is, I'll use them for this one batch, then throw them away and get something else. Very frustrating first experience with More Beer. Seeing how I bought the buckets, tops, and spigots, it's most unfortunate.

Nice bucket, but lids don't fit
As other have indicated, the lids fit very poorly and never really seal.

30l Fermentation Bucket
The bucket is great. I like the size. No blow off when I put five gallons into it to ferment.
Lots of buckets...the 30l is the one in front right. Shown fermenting only a three gallon batch.

bucket
I bought the buckets to store my sanitizing solution, but the lids, which are bought separately, do not snap on to the buckets. They just lay there loosely, not sealing the bucket at all. This was a big disappointment for me. Never-the-less, the bucket itself seems to be of good quality.

Decent bucket for the money
I’ve used this for making wine kits and they do just fine. The seal on the lid is questionable.
