Description

Reduless is a new product from Lallemand that was designed to correct negative VSCs (Voltatile Sulfur Compounds) such as H2S (hydrogen sulfide, A.K.A. "rotten egg") and DMS (dimethyl sulfide, A.K.A. "cooked corn") defects in wine. Made from inactivated yeast that have been infused with copper using a proprietary process, Reduless is a much gentler H2S remedy on the wine than the traditional copper sulfate (CuSO4) treatment alone. If you have an H2S problem, then we recommend treating it with Reduless first. However, if the sulfur problem still remains after the Reduless treatment, then a bench trial with copper sulfate (CuSO4) is recommended.

Note: The sooner you catch a sulfur problem the easier it is to deal with!

To Use:
Dissolve Reduless in 10 times it's weight in water and add immediately to the wine. Stir the wine gently to ensure a thorough homogenization. Rack or filter after 72 hours.

Recommended Dosage:
0.4-0.6 g/gal. The maximum amount of copper that can be released into the wine using Reduless at the recommended dosage is 0.02 ppm.

Reduless
Reduless works very well. Because I didn't read the directions correctly, I added twice the amount called for. Everything worked out well and customer service was very helpful with that situation.

Reduless faces difficult situation
Recently I had two exceedingly stinky wines, a syrah and a primitivo from grapes I had grown. Both wines fermented well and went into carboys smelling fine. I added mlf culture and it ran to completion with no problem. But then a truely foul odor emerged from both carboys.

Rather than just throw the offending wine away I decided to see if Reduless could help. After two doses of Reduless both wines were improved but not fully cured. The US limit for copper residue in wine is .5ppm,. With Reduless producing a residual of .02ppm from a maximum dose, I was not worried about two doses with a net of .04ppm. At 4 doses the primitivo was free of all off odors and gave a nice fruity smell. The syrah took 5 doses to loose the stink and a sixth "low dose" of .4gm per gallon will finish off my little experiment. I only gave one "mzximum dose" of .6gm per gallon, all the others were .4 gm per gallon.

My estimate is about .1ppm of copper residue compared to a maximum allowed of .5 pmm. So I feel confident in the wine.

Conclusion: Reduless is the real deal, it works and it is safe.

Great results
I have used the copper sulfate solution to "stinkies" in my wines in the past with good results. But, I would prefer to avoid the whole toxic copper sulfate issue if possible. When "Reduless" came on the market I was anxious to try it, but cautious too.

My first experiment with Reduless was treating a Sauvignon Blanc that had just a wee bit of off smell, and a single dose of Reduless cured it. That made me more bold, so I tried it again with a Zinfandel that was lacking in fruitiness in the nose--I suspected that sulfur problems were masking the fruit smell. Again, after one dose the results were excellent. Now my Zin has a fine fruity nose.

Now at season's end I have had the chance to try Reduless on Syrah that had a problem, and one dose cured it. A Cab Sauv fermented with no sulfur smell, but a long extended machceration after ferment created a sulfur problem. Reduless cured it.

Today, after just 2 and one half days my fortified sweet red has had its off odor cured by Reduless. I am totally sold on this product. It works!

I find that it cures the stinkies from supfur problems, and I also find that where the sulfur remains below the threshold of scent and masks or muffles good clean fruit smells in a wine, using Reduless solves the problem and recovers those fruit smells.

The cost is low, and a bench trial is easy to do. The results are fast. Give it a try, you cannot loose.
