Description

Columbus Rhizomes are now in stock and orders are being fulfilled. If you haven't ordered your rhizomes yet, this is your last chance till next season!

15.0-17.0% AA. Grows well in dry, hot climates. Vigorous but susceptible to mildew diseases.

Columbus is a high-alpha hop that provides a neutral bitterness and an excellent aroma. The flavor and aroma are very pungent, so it is often used for late-addition hopping or dry-hopping. Great in IPA's. Flavor is slightly floral with some citrus notes. Also goes by the names Tomahawk, Zeus, and CTZ.

Rhizomes should be planted immediately for best results. If your area is still experiencing frost then you can plant them in a planter indoors until it is safe to transplant outside. The first years crop will generally be smaller than subsequent years. Since these are live plants, we cannot guarantee they will grow, so we recommend buying two of each type to help ensure their success.

Shipping Restrictions:

Due to agricultural restrictions, we can only ship rhizomes to addresses that are in the United States, excepting Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and the counties of Bonner and Kootenai in Idaho. Unfortunately, we cannot ship these to international locations including APO/FPO addresses.

Shipping Limitation: This item does not qualify for free shipping.

This rhizome was identified in the sales literature as being hardy and fit for hot, dry climates. Trying to give the plant a chance. And Columbus is an awesome bittering hop. Looking forward to a batch of green-hopped beer!

Did well under the circumstances
This is a very hardy variety. Mine survived despite poor growing conditions - no direct sunlight and clay soil.

Grew 10 feet year 1
This is my second year growing rhizomes, and first year trying Columbus. Didn't get until mid spring, but went into the ground and grew strong, even put out a few ounces of hops year one. Next season it's likely to be a monster! Grew at elev. 6500', ground ph about 7.0, temps 75-90 summer.

Double your order, just to be safe.
I could only get 1 out of 4 rhizomes to grow this year. There can be a variety of reasons why they didn’t sprout, which include my own fault. But, I have had success, with 100% growth , in years past.

I purchased rhizomes from a different company last year , and was shipped completely dead stock. I keep that in mind when purchasing from anybody.

Also, I was shorted 1 rhizome in my order. Not sure if Morebeer considered one of them as 2, due to size. Nothing to get worked up over! I will just baby my surviving rhizome.

It's dead, Jim.
Not sure these are viable. Been in the ground for over 4 weeks now and nada. This is as compared to the three other varieties of rhizomes we purchased and planted the same day which all sprouted above ground two weeks ago. Dang.

Fast shipping, fast to break the soil surface!
Happy with shipping, happy with how fast the plant broke the soil surface.

We'll see if it's true that hops won't produce cones in Hawaii.

Aloha!
Two days shipping, two days to break the surface. They say we won't get cones in Hawaii...we'll see!

Fast grower
Growing in pot in central Florida. Ordered Columbus, chinook, and cascade. Columbus sprouted first and is 3 ft long a month after shipping. Two bines now with side arms.
Just over a month after shipping date. Longer bine over 3 ft.
