Description

Comet Rhizomes are now in stock and orders are being fulfilled. If you haven't ordered your rhizomes yet, this is your last chance till next season!

9.4-12.4% AA - Grows well in all climates. Aroma and bittering for pale ales, IPAs, etc.

Growing in popularity, this dual purpose hop has very high oil and alpha acid content.  Great, neutral bittering and a unique blend of "wild American" and citrus aromas.

Rhizomes should be planted immediately for best results. If your area is still experiencing frost then you can plant them in a planter indoors until it is safe to transplant outside. The first years crop will generally be smaller than subsequent years. Since these are live plants, we cannot guarantee they will grow, so we recommend buying two of each type to help ensure their success.

Shipping Restrictions:

Due to agricultural restrictions, we can only ship rhizomes to addresses that are in the United States, excepting Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and the counties of Bonner and Kootenai in Idaho. Unfortunately, we cannot ship these to international locations including APO/FPO addresses.

Shipping Limitation: This item does not qualify for free shipping.

I want to grow my own hops. For my growing conditions Comet looks like a good hop. I know that any hop I grow here in my little corner of the world will not be like the hop I'm purchasing. I'm looking for a hop that will grow well where I live and to make my "house hop."
Matthew P on Apr 4, 2018
I already grow most of the "C" variety hops and want to try another. I also want to help revitalize some of the classic publicly available varieties.

I planted it, it's growing, happily and healthy.
I have one Comet rhizome which I just planted, and is growing steadily and heartily here in Alaska. It's growing a nice thick red bine with lots of leaves that look like cannabis. It's not the fastest grower out of the variety I've planted this year but it looks like a happy plant.

Full disclosure, I ordered two Comet rhizomes and one of them has NOT come up yet. I'm not complaining or knocking it down any stars because it happens. Maybe I killed it, or maybe it just needs more time (it's only been in the ground a couple of weeks). Or, maybe I just got the inevitable dud. It happens. That's why I ordered two! So that's not a knock against this product, just info I wanted to pass along.

Big & Healthy Rhizomes
The four Comet rhizomes I orders arrived quickly, well packaged and appear to be quite large and healthy! I hope these Comet's survive here in Western, NY like my Chinooks.

Response from MoreFlavor
We are so sorry to hear about the bad experience with these rhizomes. While the rhizomes are living things we do our best to ship them as quickly as possible to make sure they are as healthy as they can be. We realize that some of them don't survive the trip or grow in your climate and soil. We won't leave you out in the lurch, so please give us a call at 1-800-600-0033 or email in to info@moreflavor.com and we will assist you with a refund. Cheers!

After two weeks Vines broke the surface. Looking good so far. Planted them on the South East side of the house in Vacaville.

Fresh rhizome that is growing nicely!
The rhizome was well-packaged and moist when it arrived. I kept it in the fridge for a couple of weeks until the last freeze was passed, and then planted it in my "hop garden". From the picture, you can see the rhizome has grown to a height of about 2 feet in the six weeks since it was planted. It broke the surface of the soil in a little less than 3 weeks. The Northern Brewer hop in the foreground is a 2nd-year plant, and is already over 18 feet. My other second-year hops are doing about as well. First-year plants will yield a good crop, but as they become more established, they will yield more. I got about 1 pound of wet hops from each of three first-year plants last year (about 4 ounces dried per plant). One plant did not survive (Zeus), and it was replaced this year with the Comet rhizome.
Six weeks of growth since planting of new rhizome.

only 1 of 2 rhizomes sprouted but that's why I ordered two. One was already sprouting in the bag when I got it.
