Description

Rice Hulls are used to aid in filterability when you are doing all-grain brewing and using a high percentage of wheat or oats and have had lautering problems. They do not impart any flavor to the finished beer. Use at a percentage not greater than 5% of the total grain bill.

To keep hefeweizen mash loose

I do an embroidery craft called Temari. We make round balls to embroider on, and use rice hulls for the center. They are light weight, inexpensive and clean.

Stop those Stuck Sparges!
There are two types of all-grain brewers: those that have had stuck sparges and those who will. After you've had one, you never want to have another one. Do yourself a favor and throw a handful or two of this in a mash for a 5 gallon batch. I specifically use this when I have a higher amount of wheat and/or oats.

Great product that helps with pressing. I sprinkle a little between each layer of must in the press and it helps create pathways for the juice.

For Japanese Temari Balls
I don't use these rice hulls to make beer, but to make the core for Japanese Temari thread balls (a Japanese embroidery craft). They're the traditional material for this craft and these hulls are perfect.

Prevent Stuck Mashes
Effective in preventing stuck mashes when using a large proportion of adjuncts. Don't risk it - use rice hulls.

A must for All-Grain brewers
Nothing worse than a STUCK mash! Once you've had one you will ALWAYS use rice hulls. They are basically inert and do not effect your mash or final product.

Worked as Expected
I wanted try a germen style wheat beer and intended on using 60+% wheat malt. So as an insurance policy I added a half a pound or so of the rice hulls and I have to say, the lautering went great.

Improves mash if you have the space
Definitely noticed an improvement in mash efficiency when I started adding rice hulls. Now I just about always throw a pound in the mix.
