Fits 3,5,6 & 6.5 Gallon glass carboys and 500ml flasks. A breathable Silicone stopper that acts as both a stopper and an airlock. Unique design allows CO2 pressure to escape but keeps Oxygen and airborne contamination out. Quickly became our stopper of choice for wine. Used by numerous commercial wineries. Also has great application for beer ferments: Will create a vacuum if fermenting wort cools (as opposed to pulling water in from your traditional airlock.) Air tight seal is great for extended fermented lager when CO2 production is still present but very slight. The top measures 1 1/2" wide and the bottom is 1 1/8" wide.

While the FE479 carboy stopper is a great, economical choice, you may also want to check out our premium, breathable, silicone carboy hood FE496 as well.

Want to try ditching the bubbler

Have one and love it. I use plastic carboys which can suck in water from a regular airlock when flexed when moving.

Way better than maintain fermentation locks
I stage my wines for a bit in carboys and this stopper is a nice no maintenance answer vs. topping up carboys. It's not unusual for me to have 10 or more carboys in-process so this is a time saver for me, and piece of mind.

These might work great but you have to buy the correct size. These do not fit my carboys. If you have plastic carboys you need a size 10. I have 5 of the wrong size, but can use them on gallon jugs.

Effective & easy to use
Have switched over (from rubber type with a trap) to silicone with the flap. Very easy to clean and use. Don't need to use a water/alcohol filled trap. Stays put and easy to remove. Works as expected.

great alternative to a typical airlock
These are a great alternative. No need to fill--or top up--with water. They also prevent any backflow of air (such as when cold stabilizing). One caution: when wet they are quite slippery and can pop up. It helps to give them a twist as you're inserting them.

Nothing Better
I have been making wine for 15 years and was in a continual search for "the" best stopper available always coming up short in one area or another. That is until now. When they first became available I bought two for a trial run, impressed I bought four more. Finally, I got fed up with messing with the bubblers and bought 10 more. If you are serious about your wine making procedures then you must own these. There is nothing better in market place than the silicone breathable stopper.
Two important features you will be impressed with -- 1. they don't need water to work 2. They don't extend the height profile of your carboy by six or more inches.

Best Carboy Stopper Yet
I have tried many stoppers and no matter how dry the stopper or carboy neck, they don't fit well. This works like a charm! Push down the top and it seals tightly When you open it you can actually hear the vacuum break.

A better way to go
I've use these for beer and wine making for three years. I don't see any reason to revert back to the bubblers.

Silicone Stopper (Breathable) replacing Bubblers
I have always had problems with "Bubblers" drying out or pulling the liquid back into the wort. These have totally solved this issue. If your recipe has a very active yeast and has an issue with bubble over; just keep an eye on it, and clean with Pipe cleaners as needed.

Not all "Silicone Stoppers" I found on-line looked the same. These have a top cap the allows vapor out. These allow the brewer to check active fermenting pressure with a touch of the hand.

I will buy more of these.
