Description

Sparkolloid is an amazing wine clarifier made of poly-saccharides mixed with diatomaceous earth. Use 1 tsp per gallon. Boil Sparkalloid with 1 cup of water for 15 minutes and add to fermenter. Wait 1-2 weeks before racking.

A rough approximate of weight is 1 tsp = 1.1 grams. We highly recommend using a scale to weigh the product for an accurate dose. We do not recommend relying on these rough conversions for accurate dosage rates.

To Use:

  • ‚ÄčHeat water to boiling.
  • Slowly stir in the Sparkolloid. Maintain temperature above 180°F (82°C) while agitating the mixture constantly until all of the translucent globules of clarifier have been dissolved and the mixture is smooth and creamy (approximately 20-30 minutes).
  • While still hot, slowly add the mixture to the wine.
  • Let the wine settle one week or more.
  • Then filter, preferably from the top of the tank.

It clears, but it isn't perfect
I have been using Sparkolloid on my wines, meads and ciders for a couple years. It works great and in competitions, my meads have all received positive comments on their clarity. My only complaint is that the sediment is very "fluffy" and prone to getting stirred up while racking. Because of this, I stopped using my Easy Siphon, as I found stirred up too sediment, which ended up in my bottles. The very thing I was trying to avoid.

Brews fall bright in hours...really!
I've been brewing a variety of beverages for several years now and when I tried Sparkolloid I was amazed! I could almost watch the action of this amazing fining agent. It is "GRAS" classified (generally recognized as safe) for food processing and will produce sparkling liquids in a matter of hours or just a few days. They say "bench trials" are advised, but I've always used 1 gram per gallon with amazing results. It won't change the color or flavor, just pulls particulates out of solution. So give it a try on your next project and see for yourself...
Cheers!
