Description

  • Expertly crafted fruit press made by the original manufacturer of the bladder press
  • Features a slotted screen which mirrors commercial press designs
  • Higher juice yield (65-70%) compared to other press models
  • Can be used with any domestic water supply that provides at least 36 psi of pressure
  • Easy to clean after use—simply spray down with a hose and towel dry
  • Made in Germany by Speidel

Speidel was the original manufacturer of the bladder press. While similar to the Italian models in operation, Speidel offers a few quality upgrades. To obtain a better press Speidel uses a slotted screen, similar to what is offered on large commercial presses, instead of a screen with circular perforations. Speidel presses also offer superior hardware, and a recessed valve assembly (to reduce accidental breakage). Compared to other presses, the Speidel hydro press has a higher juice yield (~65-70%) and works completely without electricity and with minimal effort.

This press can be used with any domestic water supply the provides at least 2.5 bar (36 psi) of pressure. Pressing pressure and pressing time is simply regulated by the water flow. These units are extremely easy to care for and can be cleaned quickly by simply spraying it down with a hose after use. You will find the quality you'd expect from a product that is 100% German-made.

Overall height is 42" and basket height is 23.5".  Press cycles average around 45 minutes.

Note that Speidel offers a 90L model in place of an 80L model.

Includes:

  • Complete press assembly
  • Inner mesh bag (to keep fruit from getting in the stainless basket and make cleanup easier)
  • Plastic "spray-protection bag" to keep juice from squirting out
  • Fittings to connect garden hose
  • Instruction manual
  • Presses ship in a corrugated box. Minor assembly (attaching legs) is required before use
  • 1 Year Warranty on all parts!

FAQ:

  • Can the press be operated with air pressure?
    • No. These are hydraulic presses that may only be operated with water. When operating with compressed air, there is a risk of explosion and a very high risk of injury if the membrane bursts due to excess pressure or damage.
  • Is a minimum water pressure required?
    • In order to ensure the function and the best possible yield, there should be a minimum water pressure of 2-2.5 bar on the press.
  • What if the water supply delivers more than 3 bar?
    • In principle, this is not a problem, as if the water pressure inside the press exceeds 3 bar, the pressure relief valve opens and there is no pressure-related damage.
  • How many apples make how much juice?
    • On average, 50kg (110 lbs) of apples produce around 30-35L (8-9 gal) of juice, depending on the variety and quality of the apples.

How much does it weigh?
Larry Krupinski on Aug 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This bladder press weights 91 lbs.
Can this press be used for a whole cluster press?
Kathy Dunn on Aug 31, 2022
BEST ANSWER: We have used both the 40l and 90l bladder press for whole cluster pressing. It works very well! Normally we will do three presses to maximize yields like would be done with a commercial horizontal press where multiple presses are done.
Regulator relief valve on bladder pressure (3Bar) prevents over pressing.
What size press is appropriate for 20 gallons of must? Since most of the juice runs right through, I assume press volume can be somewhat smaller than that of the must?
David Peterson on Jul 25, 2019
BEST ANSWER: small as they go would be fine. Perhaps consider future plans in your choice for a press. I like this bladder press. I’ve pressed 2 tons in 1 day with this press.
Do you have to fill completely to use?
Ken Rawe on Sep 11, 2021
BEST ANSWER: These work best if they're filled completely. One trick if you have just a partial load is to add a little water to the bladder before putting in your fruit so that there is less space between the bladder and the grate. This will allow even pressing along the whole grate instead of building up in the bottom.
Hi. What's your estimate of the minimum number of pounds of crushed grapes to fill the 90 L press? Thanks
Mark Anderson on Aug 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I am not sure how many pounds of grapes, but we use 55 gallons of grapes on the stem. By the time we clean, destem, and crush we fill our 90 L press.

Phenomenal Product!
I've used this press twice so far. Once for pressing a large amount of blueberries for wine and another for pressing 1,000lbs of apple pomace for cider. This is a beast of a machine and works amazingly well. It took about 6 full cycles to get through the half ton of apples (which I thought was pretty good!). I will say that the o-rings and connecter fittings that come with this machine will need some love if you want it to work properly and not have water leaking from the machine. Some plumber's tape added on and everything worked as expected. The machine is also very easy to clean, just spray down with a hose! This is great for the serious home vintner and cider maker or for small-scale commercial. We pressed close to 3bbls worth of juice in about 6 hours, including sanitization and cleaning.

Excellent upgrade from the ratchet basket
Fantastic. Easy set up and cleaning. Use is simple. Ran a few hundred pounds of apples and grapes through it…. With no elbow grease required.

Good press with some rough edges
Overall the press works really well and the instructions are easy to understand. A lot of thought went into the design.

There are a couple of rough edges though... literally rough edges on the top where it can snag your skin and cut you or your clothing. There were a couple of spots where the paint had been scratched exposing the metal beneath that were present on delivery as well.

Lastly the o-rings for both the water input and output were completely useless. I had to double up on the input o-rings to get them to seal. I had to replace the output o-ring as well or it would make a mess. I tried to contact more wine via email (11 days ago) asking for help on what to do, but never got a response. That was really disappointing.

In the end, I wouldn't let these issues deter you from getting this press though. It's solid and a great workhorse. It's just good to know these things so you can be prepared.
O-rings on both input and output are useless. Have some replacements on hand.

The press worked very well to squeeze grapes, I bought a clear plexiglass to rap around the press so we can see how juice comes out, it’s worth beautiful. ????????
We process a little over 900 lbs of grapes and got about 70 gallon of raw grape juice
The press works beautifully.

Greatest thing since flat bread
It took a few minutes to get the learning curve worked out, but it's one of the greatest things I've ever used. The extraction is unbelievable. We did blackberries with it on the first use and got over 150 gallons of juice out of 1600 pounds of berries. Some was loss due to user error (don't try to press frozen berries...it doesn't work), but we loved it. I can't wait to try it on other things. The man hours saved between this and usual crank press is a true blessing as well.

90L Speidel Bladder Press 10 years
I press 432# (12 lugs) of fermented grapes at one time. 3 times each fall. It works great. At the end of year, each press will yield 30 gallons of finished wine. There have been no maintenance issues for more then 10 years.

Speidel 90 L + and - review
Press works properly as advertised, and is significantly better than a basket press.
However, there remains a small amount of water i.e. moisture inside after proper draining. Over time this will corrode the interior metal elements that hold the bladder in place on the bottom, as has been the experience of another owner. There is no description of how to take it apart, or how to prevent this from happening short of taking it apart.
