I just brewed with this malt a few days ago. I am very impressed with the efficiencies that I obtained with the malt with an overnight mash. I did mill the grains again since the crush was not very fine. However, I used the grain basket in the Anvil, without a bag, and did not get a stuck mash even with the grains milled twice.
This is a decent Pilsner malt, but lacks the great flavor of Weyermann or Ireks. Perfectly adequate for beers where you don’t need a crisp field-fresh malt flavor. It’s cost is favorable for use in such beers.
Results in beers with great head formation and lacing
I have brewed two beers thus far using Viking Pilsner. One as 100% grist, the other 50%. Both exhibited the nicest head I have ever gotten on a beer. The resulting head was very white, dense, and rocky and persisted practically until the glass was empty. The flavor is best described as crisp. My efficiency fell somewhat short of expected for both, but not by enough to be problematic. All in all, a worthwhile pilsner to try. I plan on experimenting subbing in a few pounds into future beers with other base malts to see if I can get the nice head. Presently using carafoam with good results for this purpose.
I bought a sack of this malt almost 8 months ago and I love it. It’s got that great classic light crackery biscuity malty flavor that i crave in a Pilsner. The conversion is up there with the rest and the color is great. I literally just twist the grain bag it comes in to store it and 8 months later and the last Kölsch style I made was amazing. Having this sack of grain makes me confident in the beer I make and I’m happy I bought it. I highly recommend this grain and I’m excited to try other products from Viking. Cheers fellow brewers!!!
Really disappointed. Ordered grains crushed, most of what I received were hulls. Very little of the precious starchy center. Resulted in an OG that was 15 points below target. Waste of my time.

Planer malt was delivered in just a few days as promised, which was a pleasant surprise. I'm moving from beer kits to trying my own recipes with local hops. The other malts I've used so far added rich flavors to my beer. Thumbs up from this beer maker.
I love Viking Malts. I purchase a 55 lb. sack at a time. The price per pound is amazing and keeps me brewing more often. For the price it pays for it self after three brews. Flavor is good and have had no issues with grain freshness. Would recommend!!!!
I am brewing tomorrow, so I can't say how the grain tastes, but milling WAS a problem. The kernels are HUGE! I had to change the gap on my mill to get them to grind. Smelled good and tasted good by itself.
I'll update review when I beer is done. Making a Trappist Single.
I loved the flavor profile I got from this malt. It rivals that of the Wyerman malts I’ve had as far as taste. I did find that my efficiency was slightly less. But after reading other reviews that had similar experiences I just added slightly more grain and hit my numbers perfect.
