Description

  • The Ultimate Winemaker’s Companion! Includes everything you need to analyze SO2, pH, and TA in one kit
  • Tests take less than 2 minutes to perform and are incredibly accurate with pH readings to 1/100 of a point
  • Combines the SO2 detection of the SC-100A and the pH/TA analysis of the SC-200 into one compact instrument
  • Audible buzzer and indicator light alert you to when the test is complete
  • Affordable wine analysis averaging roughly $1 per test

One lean, mean wine analyzing machine. The SC-300 combines the SO2 detection of the SC-100A and the pH/TA analysis of the SC-200 into one power-packed instrument. It’s built on the same hardware and software as our other two analyzers, so the accuracy is superb. And it’s just as easy to use – The audible buzzer and visual stop light will automatically let you know when you’re tests are done! Because it does not rely on a color change, the SC-300 eliminates the guesswork in Ripper sulfite tests, especially in red wines!

Why Choose Vinmetrica’s SC-300?
Where else will you find a single, compact instrument that can measure sulfite (SO2), pH and TA (Titratable Acidity) levels throughout the fermentation and aging process? Even in Red Wines!

  • It’s Accurate:
    • SO2: ± 2 ppm Free SO2.
    • TA: ± 0.2 g/L Tartaric acid
    • pH: better than ± 0.02 pH units
  • Quick! – Less than 2 minutes per test!
  • Affordable – About a $1 per test!*
  • Easy to Use – No mystery solutions, pumps or tubing.

*SO2 (Sulfite) Tests cost approximately 70¢ / Test (the cost of the reagents per test). If you do a combined pH and TA analysis, the cost of reagents for the pH/TA test is approximately $1.12 / Test.

Complete Wine Testing Kit – Includes Everything Needed to Analyze Sulfite (SO2), pH and TA (Titratable Acidity) levels in Your Wines & Musts:

  • SO2 reagents
  • pH/TA reagents
  • Two titration beakers
  • Two 5 mL syringes
  • Two transfer pipettes
  • SO2 electrode
  • pH electrode
  • 25 mL sampling pipette (for SO2)
  • 5 mL sampling pipette (for pH/TA)
  • The SC-300 Operating Manual

The SC-300 analyzer gives accurate SO2, pH and TA values. Kit includes everything to perform about 50 sulfite tests and 30 TA tests: both electrodes, all reagents, pipettes, syringe and beaker.

A Quick Overview – Wine Analysis Procedures with the SC-300:

Easy SO2 Test

  1. Attach SO2 electrode, press the power button, change to SO2 mode and press enter.
  2. Draw up 5 mL of titrant into the syringe and place 25 mL of wine in beaker.
  3. Add ~2 mL of the acidifier and ~2 mL of the reactant to wine.
  4. Place and hold the SO2 electrode in the wine sample and swirl beaker.
  5. Add titrant from syringe dropwise until 15 second long endpoint signal reached.
  6. Multiply the titration volume by 20, the SO2 conversion factor, results in ppm Free SO2.

Simple pH Test

  1. Attach the pH electrode, set aside storage solution, rinse with DI water and blot gently with a paper towel.
  2. Press the power button then press the ‘Mode’ button and switch the SC-200 into ‘Cal’ mode.
  3. Calibrate using the pH 4 and pH 7 reference standards provided. Put the SC-200 in pH mode.
  4. Take 5 mL sample of wine, place in a beaker. Take a pH reading.

Accurate TA Test

  1. For TA test, withdraw 5 mL of the TA Titrant with the syringe.
  2. Take 5 mL wine sample and add ~15 mL of deionized water.
  3. Put SC-200 into TA mode, place clean pH electrode gently in solution.
  4. Add TA Titrant from the syringe dropwise until the endpoint is reached indicated with the visual and audible signals. Record the volume (in mL) of titrant used.
  5. Multiply the titrantion volume by 2, the TA conversion factor, results in g/L Tartaric Acid.

I purchased this product one year ago. Unfortunately, I was never able to get an OK on test results and gave up. I would like to use this piece of equipment, but what would you suggest to get a clear test?
Ken H on Sep 7, 2022
How often do you need to replace the probes? Thanks.
FromLV L on Dec 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have mine for 5 years and still works fine. How do I know it works fine? Last year I had Cabernet Franc with 27.5 brix and 3.85 pH and 0.48 TA. In other words, had to do major adjustment. I spent almost 2 days mixing and measuring, 10+ batches to make sure I have it right before fermentation. Final result: Probably the best Cabernet Franc I ever made.
Will this work for samples other than wine?
Mary R on Oct 29, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The parameters it measures are standard lab tests done on many things. The ranges that can be measured are designed for any beverage or liquid food stuff where applicable.

It takes practice.
Seems to give accurate results. I have no way of knowing though, except that we get consistent results. Not as easy to use as they depict, but once you practice a few times, it becomes easier. Overall, worth the purchase to finally get good data on my wine making efforts.

Works well
I'm new to using equipment like this. I'd recommend buying a "pipetter" to drop the liquid into your sample in a controlled manner and a magnetic stirrer. This is making a big difference in my winemaking. Before I was guessing on what to add and now I know exactly what is happening. I was surprised to find out how low my pH and SO2 was. I'm looking forward to making much better wine now.

Easy to use, especially with the help of Vinmetrica’s YouTube videos. Do some follow up reading as well . I recommend “The Wine Maker’s Answer Book” by Alison Crowe.

Wine Testing
I tried it out for the first time and after reading (and re-reading)the instructions got the readings I needed. This would have been 5 stars except the directions were difficult to understand (a photo with the equipment called out would have helped) and that it only included one squeeze bulb but recommends a separate one for acid and reagent.

So far...Great!
Bought this for my wife (she's the chemist/wine maker, I'm the laborer). She loves it so far...used it for PH and ? some other test and said it was "so easy to use...and accurate"! After the crush and then the pressing, will know more about using it.

Works Great!
I've had the SC-300 for a few weeks now and have used it several times; initially, the SO2 reading was max'd out at "1999" no matter what solution I tested. I went through the reconditioning steps and got very frustrated because nothing worked. Finally, I did the last ditch effort step and let the probe soak in 1% SO2 solution overnight. That did the trick! Everything works great now. I calibrate the pH meter each time, but it is usually only off by a 0.1 or so. The only real complaint is doing the drops for TA with a 5 ml syringe.... it's not the easiest thing to regulate accurately.
