The Ultimate Winemaker’s Companion shipped free from MoreWine!

One lean, mean wine analyzing machine. The SC-300 combines the SO2 detection of the SC-100A and the pH/TA analysis of the SC-200 into one power-packed instrument.

It’s built on the same hardware and software as our other two analyzers, so the accuracy is superb. And it’s just as easy to use – The audible buzzer and visual stop light will automatically let you know when you’re tests are done!

Because it does not rely on a color change, the SC-300 eliminates the guesswork in Ripper sulfite tests, especially in red wines!

Why Choose Vinmetrica’s SC-300?

Where else will you find a single, compact instrument that can measure sulfite (SO2), pH and TA (Titratable Acidity) levels throughout the fermentation and aging process? Even in Red Wines!

It’s Accurate:

  • SO2: ± 2 ppm Free SO2.
  • TA: ± 0.2 g/L Tartaric acid
  • pH: better than ± 0.02 pH units

Quick! – Less than 2 minutes per test!
Affordable – About a $1 per test!*
Easy to Use – No mystery solutions, pumps or tubing.

*SO2 (Sulfite) Tests cost approximately 70¢ / Test (the cost of the reagents per test). If you do a combined pH and TA analysis, the cost of reagents for the pH/TA test is approximately $1.12 / Test.

Complete Wine Testing Kit – Includes Everything Needed to Analyze Sulfite (SO2), pH and TA (Titratable Acidity) levels in Your Wines & Musts:

  • SO2 reagents
  • pH/TA reagents
  • Two titration beakers
  • Two 5 mL syringes
  • Two transfer pipettes
  • SO2 electrode
  • pH electrode
  • 25 mL sampling pipette (for SO2)
  • 5 mL sampling pipette (for pH/TA)
  • The SC-300 Operating Manual

The SC-300 analyzer gives accurate SO2, pH and TA values. Kit includes everything to perform about 50 sulfite tests and 30 TA tests: both electrodes, all reagents, pipettes, syringe and beaker.

A Quick Overview – Wine Analysis Procedures with the SC-300:

Easy SO2 Test

  1. Attach SO2 electrode, press the power button, change to SO2 mode and press enter.
  2. Draw up 5 mL of titrant into the syringe and place 25 mL of wine in beaker.
  3. Add ~2 mL of the acidifier and ~2 mL of the reactant to wine.
  4. Place and hold the SO2 electrode in the wine sample and swirl beaker.
  5. Add titrant from syringe dropwise until 15 second long endpoint signal reached.
  6. Multiply the titration volume by 20, the SO2 conversion factor, results in ppm Free SO2.

Simple pH Test

  1. Attach the pH electrode, set aside storage solution, rinse with DI water and blot gently with a paper towel.
  2. Press the power button then press the ‘Mode’ button and switch the SC-200 into ‘Cal’ mode.
  3. Calibrate using the pH 4 and pH 7 reference standards provided. Put the SC-200 in pH mode.
  4. Take 5 mL sample of wine, place in a beaker. Take a pH reading.

Accurate TA Test

  1. For TA test, withdraw 5 mL of the TA Titrant with the syringe.
  2. Take 5 mL wine sample and add ~15 mL of deionized water.
  3. Put SC-200 into TA mode, place clean pH electrode gently in solution.
  4. Add TA Titrant from the syringe dropwise until the endpoint is reached indicated with the visual and audible signals. Record the volume (in mL) of titrant used.
  5. Multiply the titrantion volume by 2, the TA conversion factor, results in g/L Tartaric Acid.

Invest in Burette
This is not a piece of equipment that you can expect accurate results with unless you practice--a lot. The syringes that come with the kit for titrations are useless for accurate measurements. Purchase a burette and all the accessories, to include a stir plate. I found you must really slow the rate of the titrating agent for acidity tests when the meter reads about 5.5 and go to a slow drop-wise addition when you hit 7.0 or you will overshoot the titration. If you keep your wine and juice well under 20 degrees Celsius, be aware your pH readings may be significantly off, too. By all means, don't overlook calibrating the meter before running a series of pH readings and pay attention to the recommended cleaning of the probe. All said, this is a good piece of equipment for conducting tests of wine, and the results are accurate once you become familiar with the equipment and procedures.

The Venmetrica SC-300 is Essential for the Home Winemaker
The SC-300 is a professional quality instrument and makes SO2, pH and TA measurements a breeze. I also recommend investing in a magnetic stirrer and titration burette to complete your basic lab analysis kit.

Gets it done
There are a lot of ways to titrate...this set would benefit from a higher end titration setup. It's a bit 3rd world for the price.

Great product
I've used this tester for two years now, testing multiple times on multiple wines. Have had no issues whatsoever (other than operator error!). Highly recommended.

Excellent instrument. I highly recommend
The SC-300 is probably the best thing since sliced bread in my book! I have been used this for pH, TA, and SO2 for the past couple of years and it completely changed the quality of my wine. I could not ask for more out of this relatively low cost instrument. I have not had the same issue that one of the other reviewers had. I do a total of about 13 full tests every month on my wines and never run out of batteries, but maybe I am lucky. I have not had any issue with probes either. The manufacture has always been very responsive to questions as well. All in all a great instrument.

Great Unit at a Great Price
I finally tired of having different test strips and shaking small vials to check a color.
I bought this unit a year ago and love the ease and accuracy of it. If you test often I would suggest buying the larger refills of TA and SO2 titrants.
No problems with batteries but I did replace the pH probe once because of my clumsiness.
Very nice to have when I'm topping barrels and I want accurate SO2 readings. Did I mention that I love this unit?

Great product, highly recomend
This is a great product and I highly recommend it. It?s easy to use and has been a great asset in my wine making adventure. I bought this because it does PH, TA and SO2 tests all in one. I had some red wine that got oxidized last year because I was not able accurately determine the PH and thus the SO2 additions were not correct. One more comment, MoreWineMaking.com is fantastic. About six weeks after purchasing the unit, the PH probe went bad. When I called to let them know it went bad , they sent another one free which I received very next day. What fantastic service!
