Description

Superior cork quality for those needing a little extra confidence for longer ageing!

A standard length and diameter single punch cork in a high quality grading at a reasonable price. Corks are typically graded on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the best score, based on the degree of porousness that the actual punch of cork exhibits. Cork trees that show a higher population of worms or fungi tend to yield cork crops which are more porous. As a result, this bag of corks is of generally higher quality and has less variation between the highest and lowest quality cork in the package.

These corks are harvested and punched in Portugal, like the majority of the rest of the corks available today. They are processed, sorted, prepped and packaged here in Northern California.

Don't buy these corks. You will be disappointed.
I had the same experience as Kirk above. I think these corks are garbage. I had a 30% breakage rate of the top of the cork when bottling. I have never experienced this before with any corks using the same corker and method. Basically a ring of cork breaks off, and they also seem to have a lot more cavities and holes than I would expect with a grade 2 cork. Definitely will not buy again.

Time will tell regarding cork failure or success
These corks felt less dense then previous grade 2 corks i have used. Before bottling i soak the corks in a solution of water and potassium Metabisulfite to clean and sanitize. I have never experienced edge breakage during bottling but it happened on 4 corks out of 380 bottles. After 7 days two corks had bled through again something I haven't experienced in 15 years of wine making. Only time will tell if these corks perform properly.
7 days after bottling two occurrences of wine bled through. never before with Grade 2 corks.
bottled 380 bottles and had 4 occurrences of edge breakage while bottling
Wine storage, 55 degrees & 68% humidity, Time will tell regarding cork failure & spoilage
