Speidel Plastic Fermenter | Round HDPE Storage Tank | 12L | 3.2 gal
BEST ANSWER: This diptube will absolutely work with the 3 gallon fermenter. It may have to be rotated just a bit up from flush, but that won't cause any problems.
How do you get this to seal with the stock gasket and screw cap? I tried the gasket on both sides of the disc and it leaks.
Kevin McMullin on Jan 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Got this from one of the product designers. "The stock gasket needs to be placed between the tank and metal disc. You must be careful when positioning and tightening, as the stock gasket can slip from lip of the tank"
How do you take the Speidel spigot assembly apart so that you can use the sleeve to attach this dip tube?

Replacement NW10 Spigot for Speidel Plastic Fermenters
Replacement NW10 Spigot for Speidel Plastic Fermenters
BEST ANSWER: The orange spigot will come out of the white plastic piece, it will take a good push. I press the bottom (where the beer comes out) against my counter while rotating the handle. It will pop out, then the whole thing comes apart. I found that you can reassemble the spigot from either direction and it provides a lower or higher position for the drain, check when you reassemble which way you want it.
Will this allow me to rack off my gross lees through the bottom rather than siphoning or pumping through the top?
William Thacher on Aug 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hello William, in theory that could work. However, it would only work if the dip tube was oriented above the gross lees with the tip above the lees. It may be hard to know how high up your gross lees goes. To get the clearest wine, we recommend racking from the top to avoid transferring the gross lees.
Is a dip tub less prone to clogging?
Andrew F Quinn on Feb 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It will depend on how much debris such as hops, are in the fermentor. Cold crashing will help you achieve a very clean and clear beer.

Finicky Seal
The manufacture quality of the spigot is solid - no issues there. I've used mine for about four years now, and I have found - as a few others here have as well - that getting a good seal is tricky. I have tried the recommended silicon gaskets, but they are too thin for the round "bulkhead." The standard seas will work, but you really need to do a leak test prior to filling the fermenter. Aside from that, I like that I can attach a valve with a quick-connect fitting for easer transfer.

Depends on what you're looking for
If you're buying this simply to attach a better valve, then it's a great accessory. Buy it. However, if you're hoping to recover additional liquid, you may want to rethink this one. I found that the additional liquid I could get out of my fermenter was about 1 cup, compared to the standard valve; with the fermenter sitting flat. And if I tilted the fermenter, I was able to get far more liquid out of it with the standard valve.

The design needs to have a few changes in the tube.
For our operation the way we use the tank, we have had to change the dip tube by adding plastic tubing to the dip tube to make it work for us. Had we not done this change, we would have lost more than a gallon of beer.

good idea, not well executed
The dip tube itself is decent quality, but a better sealing system needs to be worked out.
The speidel seals are relatively narrow, and are usually held in correct position by the cap or spigot assembly. This provides nothing to keep the seal positioned properly, and hence it's very hard to get it to actually create a seal.
In order for this item to actually be useable, i will need to develop my own seal, as I could not get the factory one to work, and wouldn't have been confident in putting 120L of liquid in my fermenter even if I had magically gotten it to line up perfect.

Not ready for primetime IMHO, purchase with the knowledge you may have to do some work to get it useable. I had read previous reviews, and was willing to take a chance, No doubt I can figure out a seal easier than I could fabricate the actual dip tube, but this is not turnkey, and hence the middle of the road rating.

Leaky
It's a great idea conceptually, but in practice, it is VERY difficult to keep the stock gasket seated tightly between the metal disc and the rim of the fermenter outlet. The result is a very IFFY connection that is prone to serious leaks.
