I drilled my other fermenters to install a thermowell, this looks easier.

I want to know the temp inside the fermentor. Prior to this purchase I duct taped the temp probe to the side of the fermentor. This seems like the perfect fix, although I wish the temp well angled up to get the sensor higher in the wort.

With the standard spigot alone, the 100L Speidel tank leaves 8.28 liters (2.19 gallons) in the bottom. Hoping this will get more out of the tank.

What is the internal diameter of the thermowell?

Is the dip tube able to be rotated after tightening? I'd like to be able to begin my transfer with it pointed up, and rotate it as the liquid level drops.
Brian Sallee on Feb 20, 2021
BEST ANSWER: The dip tube can be rotated while racking out of the fermenter. You will have to loosen the orange piece a tiny bit before you can turn it, but that should cause any leaks if you go slowly and carefully.
Upgrading all 4 Speidels with this currently for temp monitoring only. Will a digital probe thermometer work to check temps?
Gregg Carney on Feb 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this thermowell will work with a digital temperature probe.

Great Upgrade! (For the Right Reason)
This dip-tube/thermowell gets a lot of negative comments saying it leaks. I didn't experience that problem, but I did order the silicone gasket (MoreWine p/n: FE772) right from the start. You can see in my photo it's not the typical flat washer that comes standard with the Speidel fermenters, but an actual gasket that fits around the perimeter of the mounting surface. It makes contact with both the fermenter surface as well as the orange screw cap for a leak-free fit. Get the silicone gasket and you should be good to go.

Don't get this if your primary motivation is to get more to drain out of your fermenter; I think you'll be disappointed. The main benefit of this unit is the thermowell if you're using a temperature controller with your fermenter. In the past I used to tape the temp sensor to the side of my fermenter and while it worked, it wasn't sensing the true temperature of the wort. This solves that problem and is a nice upgrade to the standard Speidel fermenter spigot.

Works great!
After reading other people's reviews, maintaining a water tight seal using the stock the spigot gasket was a problem. I purchased the silicone gasket and it works great. The gasket fits around the edge of the dip tube plate and makes a good seal.

It leaks.
I was disappointed in that it leaks. I’ve tried using the existing rubber washer but to no success. Will have to juryrig with another type of washer I guess. There needs to be a redesign of the dip tube or they should supply another type of washer.

Looks good but leaks
I like the idea but have been testing to get it not to leak. Won’t use for a real brew until I can figure it out. Must be better options out there.

unnecessary
There seems to be nothing inherently wrong with this but it does not allow any more liquid to drain from the tank than the spigot does. 100L tank leaves 2 gallons in the bottom either way.

It works with some effort
I could not get this piece in leak free. The gasket to use is NOT the inner gasket from the spout, but rather the outer gasket from one of the caps. Even so, drip drip drip. I used silocone tape and that didn't help. I ended up applying 100% silicone caulk and that solved the problem.... That said, I don't have any idea how I'm going to take it off to clean it....

Never the less, it's in, it doesn't leak, it accepts a thermometer probe.
