Description

The FermZilla Flat Bottom Fermenter is an excellent option for making all kinds of beverages, from beer and wine to kombucha and cold brew coffee. It's compact, lightweight, and made of brilliantly smooth PET. The extra-large lid opening makes it easy to get your arm inside and scrub the walls clean after use. The Flat Bottom features the same lid as the Conical FermZilla's, so installing accessories like a thermowell or Temp Twister Cooling Coil couldn't be easier.

What's Included:

  • FermZilla 30L Flat Bottom Fermenter
  • 3-Piece Airlock
  • Adhesive Thermometer
  • Adhesive Voume Marker

Specs:

  • 30 L (7.9 gal) Total Volume
  • Temperature Rated to 131°F
  • Height - 18.5"
  • Height w/ Airlock - 22.5"
  • Tank Diameter - 13.75"
  • Lid Ports - 28 mm PCO 1881 threads

Please note: The Flat Bottom is not pressure rated and was not designed to carbonate in. For this reason, the lid does not come with a PRV like that which is included with the Conical FermZilla. The tank can withstand approximately 2 psi, but beyond that there is risk of deforming and damaging the tank.

Kegland Part number: KL14755

Like the larger capacity for energetic celebrations and lighter weight and durability of plastic over glass. Also really like the wide opening for cleaning..
Louis LeBlanc on May 21, 2020
Have the basic bucket, a conical polyethelen fermenter (when sediment is an issue), and various carboys. The wide mouth and multiaccess cap make cleaning and monitoring much easier. Not so concerned with sediment.

Can a spigot be added to this fermenter?
Eric Beckemeier on Mar 11, 2020
BEST ANSWER: A hole can be drilled and a spigot may be added to this fermenter. You will want to be careful that the drilled hole is smooth and free of coarse edges and that the spigot has a good rubber washer fitted tightly.
Will the hole in the lid fit a #7 stopper?
Scott Jordan on Jul 27, 2020
BEST ANSWER: no, the middle hole fits the air lock stem. nice snug fit, no problems with it. the air lock comes with it too
Does the pressure kit work with this? I just want to do closed transfers.
Adam Lowery on Mar 1, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Adam - The flat bottom is not pressure rated and not designed to withstand pressure. The tank can withstand approximately 2 psi, but beyond that there is risk of deforming and damaging the tank.

Good - but read this first
Love the wide opening, temperature range, size - everything. Super easy to clean. The volume scale is super handy too.

Two things to think about:
1 - the lid is extremely difficult to remove if you don't use some keg lube on the o-ring. This is not provided and caused me some pain on the first batch.
2 - It is pretty awkward to carry when it's full as it's heavy, large and kinda "squishy" and malleable. There is a newer model that has handles built into the lid - wish I had bought that one instead.

Great alternative to glass carboys
Much easier to manage than a 6.5 gallon carboy, but only with the steel handle - don't even bother to try without the handle. Like others have said, it really should be included.
Cleanup is a breeze with the wide opening and shorter depth.
It has plenty of head space for high krausen without a blow off tube. Clear bulkhead makes it easy to watch the yeast dance during fermentation, but you probably want to wrap it with an old towel or shirt

It is a nice fermenter. Fermentation started fast, clean up was a breeze. Definitely order the handle when purchasing this fermenter.

Decent fermenter
I jut finished my first batch in this fermenter. I brewed a standard 5 gallon batch and I've only used fermentation buckets to this point. My first issue was that my fine mesh strainer did not fit the opening like it does my bucket so I wasn't able to strain my wort like I normally do to remove hop particles. This was a minor inconvenience and I already have a work around for my next batch. My next problem was from the lack of a handle. I had to pretty much bear hug this thing, full of wort, and carry it through my kitchen, down steps, and through my basement to get to my storage area. I see that they make a handle but come on, the cheapest fermentation solution is a 5 gallon bucket that comes standard with a handle!!! Can you imagine if you had to pay extra for a handle on a bucket. Plus I have young children so we have gates everywhere. With a bucket and handle I can still open gates. With this thing I had to "clear a path" and then come back through and close gates. The last issue I had was when I went to check my FG. I do the shortcut method of dropping my sanitized hydrometer in to the fermenter. This thing wasn't deep enough to do that. The hydrometer bottomed out.

Now for what I did like. It was great to finally be able to watch my beer through the fermentation process. I did slide an old T-shirt over it to block light when I wasn't checking it. The lid opened easily when it was time to rack it, unlike the finger ripping that is required to pull the lid from a bucket. The lid has some future expansion built in so I can move my temperature probe to a thermowell when I'm ready. Cleanup was a breeze. The curved shape of the bottom made it easy to spray out the trub. A quick soak in my basement laundry sink and it was clean. It actually seemed to fit in the sink for cleaning better than my bucket.

I won't be pitching my fermentation bucket anytime soon, but I will be using this for my next few batches so I can keep an eye on things.
