Description

This Coffee Starter Kit features the Fresh Roast SR-800. A great coffee roaster with a whopping 8 oz capacity (an exceptionally large capacity for a roaster in this price range) and fan speed control.  The fan speed control allows you to evenly roast the beans in about 6 minutes, wih a 3 minute cool time.  Short and hot roasts (The Freshroast and i-Roast roasters fall into this category) tend to emphasize acidity and aromatics in a final coffee - whereas prolonged roasts emphasize body and complexity. The Freshroast is the most cost-effective mechanical roaster we offer and is very simple to use!

This kit also includes a stylish Bodum® 8-cup French Press - a truly gourmet method of brewing specialty coffee. Also included is "Home Coffee Roasting: Romance and Revival" - an excellently written, incredibly informative, and authoritative book written by Kenneth Davids (a big name in the coffee industry). You will be roasting like a pro in no time!

Have been using a SR-500 for years and it still works great. Bought this one as an upgrade.

Product has good reviews and it is the closest home roasting option to a commercial air roaster

Good reviews for this roaster. It is a good size much more convenient then the 540 model. Looks like a good way to break into coffee roasting.

Exceeded expectations!
Super easy to use and gives great results. I had one "learning curve" batch, but the second pound I roasted was easily third-wave quality!

An excellent entry into home coffee roasting
This is my first foray into home coffee roasting and I recommend it highly. The unit does what it is advertised to do. It’s a pleasure to watch the beans transform from straw smelling greenish beans to drinkable nice smelling roast. I believe it is a good reproducible introduction to coffee roasting. There are not a whole lot of variables that you can control aside from the fan, heat, and time. If you are careful and attentive, you can do some delicious roasts.
After about a dozen roasts, it made me realize how enjoyable this is and I am already looking into what it takes to go to the next level already.
Several comments though: 1. It is a tippy unbalanced top heavy design and you need to take care. 2. Chaff cleaning of the beans is good but be prepared to use the colander. 3. It’s a sweet design but is grossly overpriced for what it is. The price of the SR800 is almost twice the cost of a 500 model from just a few years ago without a whole lot of difference.
