Description

These Oxygen Absorbing beer bottle caps have a special liner that absorbs oxygen in the bottle's head space. This helps reduce the oxidation that happens during the bottling process, keeps your home brewed beer tasting fresher, and can extend it's shelf life.

Important to note: It is recommended that you only sanitize as many caps as you'll require at the time of bottling. The oxygen-absorbing agent is activated when the cap gets wet. If wetted caps are saved for later use, they'll still function as a normal cap, but the oxygen absorbing agent may be depleted.

has anyone had issues with these considering you can't sanitize them? anything the beer touches i prefer to be sanitized.

BEST ANSWER: It is OK to sanitize these caps but we recommend only sanitizing as many caps as you'll need on bottling day. The oxygen-absorbing agent in the cap liner is activated when wet. If unused sanitized caps are saved for later use, they will still function as a normal cap, but their ability to absorb oxygen may be depleted.

Sanitization is a very important matter in making beer, no question. But there are so many issues much more important than the cap, partly because the cap only affects one bottle and most other issues affect the entire batch. At any rate, I have capped thousands of bottles with unsanitized caps and have probably had less than 10 bottles that MIGHT have been affected by the cap. (I have turned a couple of 300+ bottle batches into vinegar BEFORE they were bottled.)

I always soak my caps in sanitizer just before capping. No issue there. I did have an issue with the black caps (only the black caps) where I had a abnormal amount of flat bottles. Several per case. It could have been due to sanitizer residue on the mouth of the bottle. Now it wipe the mouth with a paper towel soaked in sanitizer as I cap to insure a good seal.

You can sanitize them. The product description just says not to sanitize more than you need since it activates the oxygen barrier. Ive sanitized and capped 200 bottles with these and never had an issue. Plus the black looks killer.

You most definitely CAN sanitize them..... I just pop them into a cup of water and StarSan for a minute before I cap all my bottles at home. Easy pleasy.

I wouldn’t recommend it, when the seals get wet they deteriorate and then the bottles go flat. Haven’t had any off flavor issues without sanitation.

Have used for years. Dip individually in Star San before capping your bottle. My Russian Imperial Stout sit for 12 - 18 months with no issues.

I sanitize all my O2 absorbing caps.....never had a problem. I use whatever I sanitize immediately.

Good caps. Delivery held up at border coming to Canada. That was not the fault of the company. Covid slows things down.

No sanitizer problem

I used the caps on a couple of cases of Bourbon Oak Stout. Dropped them in Star San, didn't have any issues with carbonation. And I'll Star San everything, my self, the cat, the dog, h**l the old lady if she gets too close to the beer. All was good.
