Description

The BrewBuilt Universal CoolStix is a revolutionary cooling solution for just about any homebrew fermenter with a flat surface. It is easy to clean, easy to setup, and cools quickly and efficiently. The CoolStix uses a submersible pump to circulate cooling solution and a digital temperature controller to regulate flow. When the controller's temperature probe detects that the fermentation temp is getting too hot, it will power on the submersible pump to run ice water or glycol through the CoolStix. Once the temperature stabilizes, the controller will shut off the pump and stop circulation. Capable of maintaining the temperature of 10 gallon batch fermentations. A 1-3/8" hole will need to be cut into the lid of the fermenter for the CoolStix grommet, and a 13/32" hole will be needed for the thermowell grommet.

A cold water source is needed to provide the cooling solution. For maintaining ale temperatures, a cooler or bucket of ice water is sufficient in most cases. For maintaining lager temperatures, we recommend the Icemaster 100 Glycol Chiller.

For a complete kit with submersible pump and temperature controller, check out the BrewBuilt Universal CoolStix with Pump Kit.

Good within design limitations
This chiller seems well made and is adaptable to myriad fermenters with a bit of ingenuity. However, being just a 1" cylinder that won't be fully immersed in all probability, the amount of surface area in contact with the beer will be small compared to chilling coils. Testing in a 5-gallon Corny keg which is about 2/3rds full with 75F water, I set my Stasis Glycol Chiller to 50F. Using a laser thermometer, the temperature differential of the liquid entering the keg vs exiting the keg was only 2 to 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit. So, it's carrying some heat out, for sure, but at a slow rate. It will do the job in my basement where temperatures are already lower, as I will use this only for ales which I ferment in a Blichmann Cornical, so the chilling needs aren't too extreme. I wouldn't expect to be able to cold crash with this device.

I purchased this already anticipating these limitations, so I am still satisfied. So, five stars for doing what it is designed to do.

Works great
I drilled holes in my Fast Ferment. I am going through a lot of ice so I am going to try and incorporate some copper coils next time.
