A blend of Irish Moss and purified Kappa Carrageenan that encourages the precipitation of haze-causing materials such as proteins and beta glucans. Add one tablet per 5 to 10 gallons of wort at the final 15 min of the boil.
Excellent tool for home brew. The clarity on my beers are nice. Don’t know if I can brew without them. Just need a pill cutter to make nice cuts for 5 gallon pots.
I use these as a substitute for moss which I used to use. The convenience of the tablet is great and it clarity’s my beer in the kegs. Not sure how long to clarify as only done a couple brews so far.
I rarely cold crash, just use a half tab of these per 5-6 gal batch. Most my beers clear up very well, and some rival the clarity of commercial beers after a month of bottle conditioning (room temp).
Does the job. I drop it in the boil with 15 min left. Proteins clump and drop out nicely. Even if any trub gets into fermenter it settles out nicely before kegging. Nice clean, clear beer.
Just used half a tablet in my 5 gallon batch of American Amber Ale. You could see how nicely it cleared just racking it to my bottling bucket. Can't wait for it to carbonate so I can pour one into a glass.
Whirlfloc is necessary except when brewing really dark beer.
I've used these tablets before -it's very simple, if you want clear beer, add one the last 10 minutes of your boil and these help! If it is black (stout),don't bother.
Seems to do a good job of clarifying, Seems like I got more sediment (hop pellet) near the top of my fermenter this time will have to see next time I brew ,but just popped a beer and I am very happy with clarity.
whirlfloc works like a charm and does a better job keeping the trub in the brewpot than irish moss. I find that I only need 1/2 tablet for 6 gallons and a full tablet for 12-16 gallons.
