Description

The Buon Vino 6-Pad Wine Filter offers twice the filtering capacity of the Buon Vino 3-pad wine filter.  One of the major bummers of filtering is when you are all set up and everything is flowing along nicely and then your filter clogs.  You have to stop your operation and change pads.  If you are homewinemaker filtering 60 or more gallons we recommend you step up to the Buon Vino 6 from the Buon Vino 3.

Filter package includes 8' of 1/2 ID tubing on the input side and 4' of 1/2" ID tubing on the output side. Input side includes sediment tip but we recommend our 1/2" Racking set up (R310 or R315). The output side comes with a hook for hanging to the side of the carboy. You may also want a racking cane (R373 or R376) on this output side so your receiving vessel fills from the bottom instead of the top (to reduce oxidation.)

Can you mix filter sizes?

BEST ANSWER: Firstly, all the filter pads must be the same size - made for the Super jet filter (smaller pads are for the mini jet filter). You need to ensure all 3 (or more if you have the 6 plate model) pads are the same rating., i.e all should be coarse, or all medium or all fine. You do one pore suze, then change all pads to the next an filter again and so on.

Filters the wine great, but the pads leave a papery taste
I would have given this 5 stars, as it filters mead great! However, the first gallon to come out has a papery taste to it and is not able to be bottled. I have had this problem with the Buon Vino mini on all 3 kinds of pads, and now again on the larger pads and done tastings with people to make sure I am not imagining it or just sensitive to the taste.

After 1 to 1.5 gallons of mead goes through the paper taste dissipates. I have talked with the supplier who assures me this is unheard of, but just look at some forums and it pops up here and there. And yes, I follow the instructions of soaking and running the treatment liquid through, it just seems to be unavoidable for me somehow.

Some people never have to deal with this, and I am glad for them. But for me to get a cloudy batch to sterile, I would have to lose at a minimum of 3 gallons to the paper taste.

I hope this is fixed in the future, but I can only give my review on the current situation.

Leaker
I thought it did a good job actually filtering, but as stated in many reviews, it leaks. It leaks a lot. Reading this might be a problem, I sat the unit in a storage bin. Glad I did, filtering 40 gallons, it leaked several gallons. It was tightened to the point I feared it breaking.... still leaked.

Very good.
I have used it twicw now to coarse filter over 250 gallons of red wine from a totes to barrels. Each took about 5 hours to complete but did so with only one set of filters. Much better flow than the three pad unit I've used before.
