A complex formula that provides DAP, free amino acids, yeast hulls, unsaturared fatty acids, sterols, and micronutrients such as magnesium sulfate, thiamin, folic acid, biotin, calcium pantothenate, and other vitamins and minerals. Yeast use Nitrogen for protein synthesis and to maintain cellular growth. Nitrogen from the alpha amino acids contained in Fermaid K is utilized much more efficiently than from the ammonia salts. The unsaturated fatty acids and sterols available in Fermaid K are important survival factors needed to maintain alcohol resistance. They also help keep volatile acidity levels low. The cell wall fractions, available through the included yeast hulls, absorb medium chain fatty acids that are toxic to the yeast. They also provide nucleation sites to help keep the yeast in suspension. Fermaid K is normally used in conjunction with GO-Ferm and added to the fermenting wine after 1/3 sugar depletion. Our Winemaking consultant Shea Comfort uses the analogy of a marathon to describe when to use nutrients. GO-Ferm is the snack before the race and Fermaid K is the mid-race power bar that gets your yeast through a healthy, problem-free ferment. It is a formula used by hundreds of commercial wineries. You do not need to add any additional fertilizers or DAP when adding Fermaid K. Use approximately 1 gram per gallon. Rehydrate in distilled water.

A rough approximate of weight is 1 tsp = 4.7 grams. We highly recommend using a scale to weigh the product for an accurate dose. We do not recommend relying on these rough conversions for accurate dosage rates.

I love the product. It really works. No more sluggish or stuck fermentations. I like it more than Fermaid O because it doesn't get hard and useless after a few months. I have no problem that it has Dap in it.

Wasn't as effective as I'd hoped

Better than aerating for yeast reproduction?
I’ll put a pinch of this in my next starter. Fermaid K reportedly contains unsaturated fatty acids and sterols, which yeast need to reproduce (do budding). Normally, yeast use oxygen to create those molecules, and oxygen is the limiting factor.
In the brew, the yeast have 2 options: 1) make the unsaturated fatty acids and sterols on their own using the oxygen that is available in the aerated brew or 2) use existing fatty acids and sterols, which they prefer.
In short, this nutrient should help my yeast reproduce as much as they want, so I don’t have to really worry about aeration. Besides, too much or too little aeration can be bad.

This is a Must for your Must
I dont trust the yeast to make it to the end of my ferment on their own; especially considering the high brix levels that CA fruit tends to come in at these days (25-27 is normal). If you dont feed the yeasts during exponential growth, you risk ending with residual sugars when the colonies die off at 15%abv due to low numbers (of colonists). If you are ameliorating the must to bring the brix down (I dont as I want the fruit to speak for itself), you will still want to feed the troops during exponential growth in order to insure you get the most out of the esters. You can make up for acids but you cannot for color/flavor/nose if you ameliorate. Those happy yeasts will go get those esters even if they have to swim for them. Good stuff - been using Ferm-K for a decade and love how the must perks up a few hours after dosing.

Gives me great fermentation.
I use this yeast nutrient for starters and fermentation and I have gotten great cell growth in my starters and great attenuation. I would like to know the zinc content of this product.

I have never had a failed batch! I have always used fermaid k and go ferm together. They are an absolutely perfect combination for nutrients!
