Will this spigot work on the 3 gallon FerMonster? The 3 gallon FerMonster has thinner material (versus the larger unit) and a recommendation on how to drill this thin material would be helpful.
BEST ANSWER:Use a STEP Bit to drill the hole , they have gadualtions in size as you drill , STEPS each a size bigger as you go deeper , they also debur the edge ! as for will it work on thiner material , the gaskets are the key to the seal like a Bulkhead fitting , it will seal the problem will be strength thiner material will mean less resistance to Ruff / abusive handeling ! but PET is very flexable

I had one of the red and white spigots, but this one is worlds better. It comes apart and back together much easier, and the chamfered gasket makes a very good seal.
The red one was so bad about going back together than eventually I couldn't even assembly it and the handle was on the verge of breaking because it was not seating correctly. I can tell this version will not have any such issues, and the handle is much stronger besides.
Bought a couple of these to add to Fermonsters that I had previously purchased without spigots. I've used this particular Fermonster a couple of times since I added the spigot. Checked on fermentation progress tonight and found wort had leaked all over the fermentation chamber (repurposed mini fridge). I thought that perhaps I hadn't tightened the spigot properly. Transferred the batch to a spare bucket. Pulled the spigot out and found it had split in the threads and cracked on the backing. There's no way a person should be able to over tighten these enough to break them given the lack of ability to provide leverage on them. My advice, check for leaks each time you clean, sanitize, and before you fill. I remove and clean and sanitize them between batches. If it broke whe I last installed it, I would think I would have felt it loosen when I was tightening it.
Recently (Dec 7, 2021) upgraded to the 7 gal FerMonster and this is the spigot that comes with it. Bought a couple of extra (I like having spares on hand). Once the new fermenter and spigots arrived I unboxed everything and gave everything a test run. I installed a spigot per the instructions, filled the FerMonster with water, and then let the carboy sit. Came back in about 10 minutes and noticed a small drop of water directly below the spigot barb. Just to be sure I dried up the water and then gave it another 10 minutes. Yep, another drop of water. The spigot is leaking from the barb which means that there isn't anything you can do about it. Tried another spigot and the result was the same. Would not recommend these.
MoreBeer mistakenly sent a Fermonster with a hole when I ordered one without the hole. I was told to keep the Fermonster with the hole or throw it away.
Throw it away???
No, I purchased the spigot and installed it in the Fermonster and now my Fermonster with the spigot is my bottling "bucket".
I have several fermenters with this spigot and in less than a year I have had to replace the spigot 3 times. The last time I purchased 2, which was smart, because one of the ones that were sent had a manufacturer defect (fortunately I found this out before putting beer in).

stronger spigot
This spigot replaced an older model that would crack along the threaded shaft, this model is made stronger to avoid cracking if accidentally banged
I've had these for a while now and use them mostly for cider. They work and never had any leaks with simple hand tightening. You must, however, be very careful if you have these in the cold. I had it cold crashing outside in 20's-30's. It was about 42F when I was racking. Once finished I tried pulling the braided hose off and it broke the nozzle off very easily. I may only use silicon hose on this next time since it is much more flexible and should put less stress on the nozzle. These should be made of stronger plastic.
Have had 2 of these spigots for almost three years and have never had any leaks. It does sometimes loosen when inserting or removing the bottle filler, but its fine other than that
After using these for a number of years I can say I wouldn't buy these again. They work great for a brew or two, but after that quickly start to lose the ability to seal. The seal at the bucket is good because you can tighten it, but the trouble lies in you having the bucket on a flat surface (not hanging over a counter, but all the way on the counter for example) it will be pushed into the bucket often causing leaks or breaking altogether. Plus you can't really tell if you have it 100% free of gunk.
Wow, these have went up in price! They work but you'll end up breaking them after using them a couple of times. I've been through four or five of them this year. Only one has broken on the threads and the rest will still work if you don't need to hook any tubing up to them.
this spigot leaks unless you tighten it very hard--in which case it breaks. I consider myseld fortunae that I found this out without having it leak all over the floor where I do my fermenting. It is junk and should not be sold.
These spigots work great for me. Use them on two 6.5 gal fermenting buckets and two bottling buckets. Spigots and washers are removed for cleaning after each fermenting or bottling. Never had a break, never had a leak. Of course, I keep a couple extras for backup at all times, just in case.

Cheaply made, but it works
This is a cheaply made spigot. I to just twisted my first one in two by putting it on to tight. The second one, I learned to just snug it on. It is very thin plastic so if there is a more durable option, I hope morebeer will choose that.
There is a spigot that rotates and has a smooth tube, no barbing. That is far better than this spigot from my experience. As this does not rotate, the hole has to be higher from the bottom of the bucket, and therefor harder to get out the last bits of beer.
I don't have any issues with this product per say, the issues are more related to installation and configuration on the bucket. As most people have stated, you either need to make a compromise of installing the spigot higher on the bucket to avoid contact with the nozzle and the surface you are working on, or you have to angle the nozzle on the bucket which can be a little awkward.
If you do install the spigot low and with the nozzle pointing straight down, it is fairly easy to bend the plastic and cause it to crack.
Wish there was a bit more to it as the handles can break off under too much force (why I had to replace), but it is not expensive and I just used it as an excuse to change out that old spigot and grommet.
This product worked fine- I don't know how people keep breaking it. But I was able to drill a hole in my bottling bucket and attach it, and it seals just fine. When I set the bucket on the ground after using it, I just unscrew the back, rotate the spigot nozzle 180 degrees, and tighten it. This allows me to have a pretty low drilled hole location. Cheap and easy.
I've used mine on a bottling bucket and fermenter with no leakage or other problems. To keep it from touching the floor, it has to mounted a bit higher than I would like. It would be great to have a pick up tube so you don't have to tilt the bucket when bottling.
It seemed like a good idea until I broke a couple of these without knowing it and lost most of my batch. I ferment with my glass carboys now and siphon out.
Used it for about 6 months before it broke. thinking of getting 2 more so i can have a extra on hand... just in case!! for the price it not that BAD!3 bucks.. what do you want??? it would be nice if you could rotate it..like my old one!!!

I love these spigots. I mount them just high enough that nozzle does not touch floor. No worries then about unwanted pressure on spigot when bucket is standing, or about having to turn spigot sideways to avoid same.
They are easy to take apart for purpose of cleaning/sanitizing after each use. Never had one leak, crack, or break.
Always keep a couple extra just in case.

Cheap
I just had this brake last night after 2 uses. It's cheap thin plastic. I'm going to see if I can find a better one to replace this with.
Broke first one trying to hand install onto bucket without a gasket(no gaskets sent with kit). Found out after brewing 1st batch gaskets were supposed to be there, but on backorder... Second one leaked after 1 week of not leaking - lost 2 gallons of wort. Made a major mess of closet carpet. Went to hardware store to get a gasket. Broke before I could hand tighten. This is junk.
One thing that I consider a engineering issue with these spigots is that when the spout is facing straight down the spout is touching and push up on the spigot twisting the seal with the bucket. This was not much of as issue with the older version of the spigot since you could rotate the spigot without loosening the seal with the bucket. These new versions do not allow you to rotate the spigot without loosening or tightening the seal. Either way (too tight or too loose) it will leak. Please bring back the old version!!!!
